Man Killed In High Speed Crash On Gold Coast

A man has died after the car he was in smash into an embankment on the Gold Coast.

A man has died after being thrown from his vehicle in a high-speed crash on the Gold Coast.

Police said the fatal smash happened near the intersection with Gawthern Drive at Pimpana when the car left the road and crashed into an embankment, about 11pm Friday.

The 24-year-old male driver -- and sole occupant of the vehicle  -- was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman described the scene as “traumatic”, telling media that the driver was thrown from the vehicle and   “came in contact with power lines”.

Police are asking any members of the public who saw the incident or who have relevant dash-cam footage to contact police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
