Meghan Markle's half-sister has reportedly been rushed to hospital with a fractured knee and broken ankle after the car she was travelling in crashed in Florida.

Samantha Markle, 53, is said to have been travelling with her partner, Mark, close to home in the Sunshine State when the accident occurred on Monday, local time.

TMZ reports that the crash happened after paparazzi "confronted" the car at a toll booth. Samantha's boyfriend told the entertainment website the photographer swerved in front of their car, causing them to try to avoid him and sending them into a concrete barrier.

Samantha, who has MS, was reportedly thrown into the windshield and was not able to lift herself back up off the floor after the crash.

Mark told TMZ Samantha's foot was twisted backwards and she was rushed to hospital where she was being treated.

The crash comes after Samantha, who has published a book titled The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister and regularly comments on her half-sibling, was slammed on UK TV this week for profiting from the upcoming royal wedding.

"There’s no bigger media vulture with this wedding than you,“ Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan told her as the world counts down to the royal wedding.

“How do you have the gall to come on here and talk about media vultures. You've been trashing her for two years you little vulture.”

Samantha is estranged from her half-sister. She hasn't seen  Meghan since 2010 and has reportedly had only one chat with her since then.

She also courted controversy in the lead up to the Royal Wedding for being involved in Meghan's father Thomas's baffling decision to stage photographs with a paparazzi photographer.

The Florida crash happened as anticipation builds for the wedding of the year between the divorced U.S. actress, 36, and Prince Harry.

Four days out from the globally hyped event it is also reported that Meghan's father's heart surgery has been completed after he suffered a heart attack earlier this week.

Doctors are said to have successfuly implanted multiple stents in Thomas's blood vessels. It is this health issue that the former lighting director now says is stopping him from attending his daughter's wedding at Windsor.
