Emergency services were called to Orange Airport at about 7.10pm on Tuesday, after reports of an aircraft crash.
The four-seater plane was found to be engulfed in flames, leaving the man and woman, believed to be in their forties, with severe burns.
They have been airlifted to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
