How A Monobrow Model Is Challenging Stereotypes At London Fashion Week

Greek-Cypriot model Sophia Hadjipanteli, also known as 'unibrow girl', is challenging beauty standards as she leads the fashion pack in London.

The 23-year-old Instagram star has been spotted sitting front row at some of London Fashion Week's most illustrious runway shows. And given her striking looks, she's rather hard to miss.

Hadjipanteli moved from Cyprus to America to attend the University of Maryland, but quickly rose to prominence in the modelling industry for her incredible figure and unique facial hair.

The model has a dark and unkempt monobrow -- a distinct feature that has garnered her modelling contracts, 414,000 Instagram followers, and sadly, trolls and death threats.

This Insta-Famous Model Is Getting Death Threats Over Her Monobrow

A model who has a huge following on Instagram is receiving death threats because of her choice not to tame her bushy eyebrows.

"It's disgusting but then you think how is it that somewhere somebody has been told that it's so unacceptable to look the way I do that it infuriates them to the point where they have to threaten my life," Hadjipanteli told UK morning show Good Morning Britain early last year.

Now one year on, she has returned to London with a fabulous vengeance, appearing at an array of distinguished fashion events.

The influencer sat front row at the Roberta Einer and Ashish runway shows, posed for David Koma's show, and was snapped attending Vanity Fair's party.

She has also just announced she will be gracing the cover of Glamour UK for their self-love issue, modelling and speaking about the #UnibrowMovement she founded.

Hadjipanteli has been a long-time advocate for body positivity and self-love. Speaking to the Cut in 2018, she revealed that being bullied as a child led her to embrace what makes her unique, namely her monobrow that she calls 'Veronica'.

I really wanted to push people to look at me and to look at a unibrow -- which they've been conditioned to think it's kind of weird and something you should get rid of -- for them to still say that I was beautiful with this textbook 'unattractive' thing.

"I never really based my self-confidence on how others treated me because at school I was bullied at lot for things that were not focused on my face -- my outfit, having parents that were immigrants, we didn't speak English, being the smallest in my class."

Born a blonde, Hadjipanteli has also confessed in the past that her wild brows aren't totally natural. The model tells the story that when she was mucking around with makeup tutorials as a teenager, she accidentally left her eyebrow tint in too long.

Low and behold, she loved the jet black look. And with that unusual decision, her extraordinary career was born.
