What You Probably Haven't Noticed About Joaquin Phoenix's Outfits During Awards Season

'Joker's Joaquin Phoenix is set to win big at this year's Oscars, but don't expect him to buy a new suit for the occasion.

The 45-year-old is a favourite to take out Best Actor at the 92nd Academy Awards -- one of the evening's highest honours. And if he does, he will take to the stage in the very same suit we've been seeing all awards season.

In January, designer fashion label Stella McCartney announced that the actor has chosen to wear the brand's same tux to every award show appearance in an effort to reduce waste.

For us mere mortals, outfit repeating is less a political statement, more a necessity. But for Hollywood's elite, there is incredible power in fashion.

For almost 20 years Stella McCartney has positioned itself as a "sustainable luxury fashion" brand, a natural fit for the actor/activist.

"He chooses to make choices for the future of the planet," they said.

As the stars take to the red carpet, we're getting flashbacks to the 2019 Emmys.

Phoenix is a long-time environmentalist and outspoken activist for animal rights. And his suit stunt is only one of the ways he has mobilised the buzz surrounding his 'Joker' performance in order to draw attention to the causes that are important to him.

Taking out Best Actor at the Golden Globes earlier this year, Phoenix used his speech to call out the hypocrites of Hollywood.

“It’s really nice that so many people have come up and sent their well wishes to Australia, but we have to do more than that,” he said.

“It’s great to vote, but sometimes we have to take that responsibility on ourselves and make changes and sacrifices in our own lives, and I hope that we can do that,” he continued. “We don’t have to take private jets to Palm Springs for the awards sometimes or back, please. And I’ll try to do better and I hope you do.”

Phoenix, a vocal vegan, also spearheaded a campaign to convince award shows to serve only vegan food. And so far, his efforts have seen great success.

Golden Globes: Joaquin Phoenix Says 'We Need To Do More' About Australian Bushfires, Climate Change

Joaquin Phoenix used his Golden Globes win to stress the urgency of the Australian bushfire crisis and urged global action on climate change.

The Golden Globes made an 11th hour decision to switch to an entirely plant-based dinner, as did the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Now, the Oscars have opted for a 70 per cent plant-based menu.

“The Academy is an organisation of storytellers from around the world, and we owe our global membership a commitment to supporting the planet,” the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in a statement.

From his loud and proud veganism to his unchanging suit, Joaquin Phoenix is turning Hollywood on its head by practicing what he preaches.

Including Phoenix's own Best Actor nod, 'Joker' has an incredible 11 nominations to its name -- the highest at this year's awards.

If the film's leading man does take out the top spot, we can be sure he will deliver an impassioned and evocative speech, all while wearing that now iconic Stella McCartney suit.
