Stella McCartney Deletes Instagram Post About Meghan Markle After Fierce Backlash

The designer attracted negative comments after she posted one of her coats that the Duchess of Sussex wore on Remembrance Day.

Meghan Markle attended a wreath-laying service at the Cenotaph memorial central London on Sunday, along with her husband Prince Harry and fellow members of the royal family including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.

During the service, the Queen publicly cried as Prince Charles lay the first wreath on her behalf, which honours all men and women who have served in past conflicts and those still serving.

The Queen's Tears For Fallen War Heroes On Remembrance Day

In a rare moment, the Queen has publicly shed a tear for heroes of war during a Remembrance Day service, as Australians, veterans and their families gathered across the country to mark the end of World War I.

At the service, Meghan Markle wore a $2,815 coat designed by Stella McCartney, with the designer later sharing a photo of it to her Instagram account.

"So honoured to have HRH Duchess of Sussex in our Autumn '19 coat at Remembrance Day service. x Stella #RemembranceDay," she wrote along with the photo of a solemn Meghan Markle.

While the post attracted more than 44,000 likes and many commented on the beauty of the outfit, others deemed the post both 'insensitive' and 'inappropriate' given the meaning of Remembrance Day.

"Using Remembrance Day to advertise your clothes is a little disrespectful! People died and you take pictures of people showing respect for advertising purposes. Just wrong," wrote a commenter.

Today is about those who gave their lives for our freedom. Who gives a f*** what she's wearing.

A third added: "I'm really surprised, shocked, saddened and disappointed that you uploaded this post."

Following the negative attention, the post was deleted from McCartney's Instagram and when she was approached for comment by the Standard in the UK, the request was declined.

It is unknown if Meghan Markle purchased the coat from the designer or if it was gifted to her to wear.

The Duchess of Sussex is a long time wearer of McCartney's designs, one of her most notable being the white halter-neck dress she wore to hers and Prince Harry's wedding reception which she changed into following their wedding ceremony.
