'Instagrammable' Cinemas Are Coming To Make Your Pre-Movie Pics Better I Guess?
Event Cinemas is opening the doors to what they're calling Australia's first "Instagrammable cinema".
Have you ever been seated in a cinema and thought to yourself, "None of my idiot Instagram followers are EVER going to double-tap on this drab box if I post a pic"?
Have you ever wondered why there's always one solitary but enormous moth in every cinema you've ever been in?
Do you ever look around a cinema and think, "I'm never going to Instagram from this IMAX cage"?
Well, wonder no more (except about the moth thing, that's crazy right?) because Event Cinemas are launching new ~ designer ~ cinema experiences.
In lieu of your regular boring Gold Class experiences, this week Event Cinemas George Street is the first to launch the new Event Boutique. These cinemas have been packed with designs based on local architectural and cultural references, movie feels and -- oh yeah -- the perfect blend of colour, texture and wanky gimmicks to make your Insta pics pop.
The first two Boutique cinemas are called "The Library" and "Paparazzi -- with the first decked out with faux bookshelves in an homage to the art of storytelling while the second is your red carpet dream and all things Hollywood. The Library has what looks like a very real ladder in the cinema too, so if you're watching a movie starring Tom Cruise and you can't see him so good you can always just jump up onto that for a better view*.
*That's probably not recommended.
The cinemas aren't the only thing that has been given an aesthetic overhaul, the food you can order has also received a bit of a ritzy glo-up.
Sitting in The Library cinema? Why don't you order a book full of meat? (Just don't try to bring a book full of meat to a real library, we're no longer welcome at the Lane Cove Library).
They're also offering cheese platters and other dishes designed to "deliver a cinema experience unlike any other".
Gone are the days of trying to neatly eat a choc top, only to drop that tiny shard of chocolate on your front but not realising until you leave the cinema hours later.
Event Cinemas' General Manger, Luke Mackey, explained that "everything about the Boutique experience is premium, unique and world-class".
Is that literally a fancy arrangement of cabanossi, cheddar cheese and some Jatz? Absolutely. Will it cost $35 bucks? Probably. Do we want it because it's served in a swanky tower thing? Yes, definitely.
The swanky cinemas are set to open on June 14 at George Street with plans to roll out more Boutique cinemas across select locations in Australia and New Zealand in the future.
Let's just hope this doesn't inspire people to take photos DURING the movie. Keep your phones on silent, you animals.
