Alicia Keys' 'No Makeup' Grammys Look Is Actually Bloody Expensive
Alicia Keys' makeup artist has revealed the singer's now iconic 'no makeup' look will actually set you back quite a pretty penny.
The host of the 2019 Grammy Awards has long been a champion of the 'no makeup' look.
Her decision to go au natural came about in 2016 when a photographer insisted on shooting her with no makeup for her album cover.
Not long after, Keys explained her change of heart in an essay for Lenny Letter, writing: "I swear it is the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt."
Keys appears to have stuck to her guns -- and hasn't been seen wearing a slick of lipstick since.
But, according to her makeup artist (yes, even the 'no makeup' look requires a makeup artist, go figure), Keys' look isn't all it seems.
In an interview with W magazine -- Keys' makeup artist, Dotti, revealed that a lot of maintenance goes into Keys' fresh-as-a-daisy complexion.
Here's a range of products Dotti revealed she uses to get Keys' skin photo-ready.
Dotti said she likes to "stick a jade roller in ice, so it’s basically freezing when I roll it over Keys' skin."
I really, really work into all those areas where I want blood and water and energy brought to the surface. It brings her skin to life."
Nourish And Brighten
After massaging Keys' skin, Dotti likes to use some facial oils to help nourish and brighten her complexion.
According to W, her favourite product to start with is the Australian-made MV Organic Skincare -- which is packed with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant-rich botanical oils.
OIl It Up
Dotti told the publication that sometimes one oil blend simply isn't enough to fully hydrate and ends up incorporating Jojoba oil into the mix.
It’s so close to the natural sebum we produce in our skin."
Again, her pick of the bunch is made by MV Organic Skincare.
Behind The Masque
After getting some of those good old oils into her skin to help nourish it, Dotti likes to let Keys relax with a masque to help calm her skin.
Her favourite one to use is a probiotic-rich option from Éminence Organics which helps keep acne at bay.
According to the publication, Keys is also a fan of celebrity favourite SK-II's treatment masks.
Loved by everyone from Cate Blanchett to Chrissy Teigen, the mask contains a rich combination of vitamins, amino acids and minerals.
So the whole 'no makeup' look is kind of a misnomer.
According to Dotti, there are times when she'll add a few individual eyelashes to enhance Keys' eyes and at times will even use a brow pencil to dot on a few extra freckles to enhance her complexion.
Layer The Foundation
While Keys' glow is no doubt thanks to a stellar (and very expensive) skincare routine, Refinery29 did a little digging and discovered that while performing on stage Keys did, in fact, have the help of a little foundation.
See, there's hope for us all yet.
Her foundation of choice, according to Dotti, is by Burt's Bees, and she told the publication that she opted for the brand's full-coverage liquid foundation mixed with a little facial oil to give the skin a natural tint.
Unfortunately, you can't yet buy the product in Australia, but IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream Oil-Free Matte will also work a treat.
