Iris Apfel Signs Modelling Contract At The Age Of 97

Meet the world's oldest supermodel.

She's all style and grace and she's nearly 100.

Iris Apfel -- the style icon from New York who has already famously modeled for M.A.C. and Kate Spade ad campaigns, has appeared on the cover of Dazed & Confused, and was even the star of a Vogue Italia spread -- has finally gone and got herself an agent.

Proving it’s never too late to do anything. Ever.

Consider us inspired.

The 97-year-old businesswoman, interior designer and style icon, has been signed by IMG for worldwide representation for modeling, appearances and endorsements. Also on their books? Well, Kaia Gerber, Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss, among others.

“I’m very excited. I never had a proper agent,” Apfel told WWD.

Known for her amazing outfits and her ever-present large black glasses, Iris found fame after she started her own textile company Old World Weavers in 1950 with her late husband Carl, and the company did nine restoration projects at the White House.

Asked what she attributes all the interest in her to, she said, “I wonder about that. My husband, until he passed on, we used to sit there and laugh and laugh, and I’d say I’m no different than I was 70 years ago, and all of a sudden, I’m cool, I’m a hot property. It’s ridiculous. People tell me it’s because I’m real…and say what I think.”

She says she's really looking forward to being a supermodel. “I enjoy it very much. It’s very tiring. I can see why they get paid big bucks. It’s great fun. I like it a lot. Who would think I would be a 97-year-old cover girl?” but take note, she has no intention of walking the runway -- we hear you! --  at her ripe old age.

But you will be pleased to hear that -- despite that age -- she doesn't have any plans to retire anytime soon.

"I don’t think a number should make any difference and make you stop working," she told WWD. "I think retirement is a fate worse than death."

She "radiates creativity and inspiration and we’re so excited to explore new and unique opportunities with her, where her natural gifts can be shared with the world," IMG president Ivan Bart said. "At 97 years old, Iris continues to prove that age is just a number and shouldn’t be something that defines you."

If you want a little Apfel magic yourself, you can get some -- for a price. For the last eight years, Apfel has not only been modelling, speaking and generally being a style legend, she has also been working with Home Shopping Network, where she designs ready-to-wear, jewelry and accessories.

“I design it and then I go on the air and peddle it. It’s great fun, and I love it. I have a very interesting clientele that pleases me to no end, everything from young ladies to drag queens,” she said.

In 2005, she was also the first living person, who was not a designer, to have her clothing and accessories exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, she's also had a documentary made about her life, and last year a book about her style was released.

She really is Queen of all things fashion.

You go girl.
