When Royals Were Fashion Cheapskates, Just Like Us
Like you, Meghan, Kate and even the Queen of Spain LOVE a bargain buy.
She might not be as familiar to you as British royals Kate and Megs, but Spain's Queen Letizia deserves a shoutout, particularly for her recent thrifty fashion choice.
The sartorially savvy Queen and her husband, King Felipe VI, welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan to the Royal Palace of Madrid on Wednesday, and as you'd expect Letizia looked glam as heck.
Imagine our surprise when we learned that her divine long-sleeved blush frock -- featuring an Asian-inspired pretty floral and bird embroidery -- was from everyone's fave e-tailer, ASOS.
And it rings it at a rather affordable $150.
Add to cart, ASAP, right?
Well you'll want to, 'cause this chic, royalty-approved number is almost sold out (on the Aussie ASOS site at least.)
Queen Letizia -- who also loves well-priced shoe brand Steve Madden -- isn't the only royal with a taste for cheap-as-chips farshun.
Duchess-of-the-moment Meghan Markle stepped off the plane in Wellington, New Zealand on October 28 wearing a $76 black maternity dress by ASOS.
Sure, the 37-year-old topped the bump-friendly LBD with a $975 plaid trench by Kiwi designer Karen Walker, but that just proves her knack for mixing high and low pieces.
The mama-to-be's wallet-friendly approach doesn't stop at clothing, either, with the Duchess apparently a “religious” user of Nivea’s Q10 Firming Body Lotion.
Her "favourite lotion on the market" will set you back just under 10 bucks. Noice.
The ex-actor also once admitted that -- just like the rest of us -- sometimes she just CBF'd taking off her makeup at night and so always has some Bioré facial cleansing wipes handy. In fact, she used to buy them in bulk.
Meg's sister-in-law Kate Middleton loves recycling her exxy designer wardrobe -- she re-wore a red hot Preen number most recently -- but she's also not shy about sharing the lurve with budget brands.
The DoC -- that's Duchess of Cambridge -- has been sporting high-street label Topshop for yonks, and looked perfect in a polka dot maternity dress back in 2013.
The $63 piece sold out in minutes, natch.
Fast-forward five years and K-Midd's penchant for penny-pinching outfits is still going strong.
Case in point: when she stepped out in a summer-friendly Zara frock to watch hubby Will play polo on June 10.
The blue and white striped calf-length dress featured a sweetheart neckline and ruching across the bust and cost just $99.
We love it when fancy people like the royals shop where we, humble commoners, shop. There's just something funny about picturing them waiting eagerly for their ASOS delivery to arrive ...
