Céline Dion's New Kids Clothing Range Is Gender Neutral
Don't expect to see any pink or blue here.
Vocal powerhouse and certified ray of sunshine Céline Dion announced on Wednesday that she's moving into the world of fashion. Children's fashion, that is.
The 'My Heart Will Go On' singer revealed in a video on Instagram that she's teamed up with Israeli kid's clothing brand NUNUNU on a new range of threads for little ones.
What sets this celeb/designer collab apart from the rest -- and there are a lot of them about -- is that the every single piece in the funky CELINUNUNU collection is gender neutral.
As in, the line of t-shirts, hoodies, leggings and onesies aren't tailored to just girls or boys, but both. Or, more to the point, for those that don't define themselves according to gender at all.
"I’ve always loved nununu and what they represent," Dion wrote on Instagram.
"Partnering with them to encourage a dialogue of equality and possibility makes so much sense."
According to the NUNUNU, the brand "breaks stereotypes and inspires children to be free and find their own individuality through clothes."
How? Well, there isn't a scrap of traditional girl/boy hues like pink or blue to be seen in the 70-piece range.
Dion and the co-founders and designers Iris Adler and Tali Milchberg have instead opted for a palette of grey, white and black, with pops of yellow and blue, to avoid any colour stereotypes.
Prints featuring skulls, stars, crosses and letters of the alphabet continue the gender neutral theme. No 'girly' love hearts or 'boyish' dinosaurs here.
On the website, all pronouns have been nixed. The clothes, for kids aged zero to 14 years old, are simply sorted into three categories: Tops, Bottoms and Dresses.
There are two other sections, Shoes & Blankets and Babies, but again nothing is attributed to a particular gender. Everything is for everyone.
That's the prevailing theme in the promo video 50-year-old Dior stars in, which sees her sneak into a hospital birthing ward to work her stereotype-busting magic.
The Canadian legend sprinkles some fairy dust to transform the newborns from their pink and blue onesies into -- what else -- pieces from the CELINUNUNU range.
Not only is the range forward-thinking and inclusive, but it's also well-priced. Most pieces fall between the $70 to $140 mark, although there is a cute leather jacket in the mix for about $480.
Dion is the perfect pick for a children's fashion collab. First up, she's kind of a big kid herself, and is often seen goofing off with her own kids -- eight-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson, and René-Charles, 17 -- on social media.
Along with her fun sense of humour, the five-time Grammy award winner also has a serious sense of personal style. The fashion darling regularly rocks looks from Dolce & Gabbana, Vivienne Westwood and Balenciaga.
Here's hoping a grown-up's range follows soon.
