Urban Decay Axes Naked Palette, Beauty World Mourns An Icon
Plus, what this means for Aussie fans -- it's not all bad, we promise!
Today is a very sad day for we have lost one of the greats. A revolutionary, a game-changer, a spark of beauty in this otherwise dull world.
For today makeup megabrand Urban Decay has announced that it is discontinuing its iconic NAKED Palette.
The versatile, flattering eyeshadow palette of 12 incredible bronze-toned neutrals was a best-seller for the brand for over eight years, and was a go-to for beauty lovers all over this Earth.
In fact, it's one of the most purchased palettes in all of history -- we're talking over $1 billion worth sold since 2010. According to Allure, one NAKED Palette was snapped up every six seconds in 2015 alone.
Why, WHY would Urban Decay go and do such a thing, you/we scream.
"Saying goodbye to NAKED is extremely bittersweet, it was a big moment in our history," UD founder and NAKED creator Wende Zomnir said in a statement.
It's a little painful to leave your past behind, but it's also essential to always evolve. I will forever miss NAKED, but we plan to turn the grief into even more greatness.
Urban Decay will continue to thrive in NAKED’s memory and honor -- just wait and see."
This loss is understandably huge, so much so that famous fans, including Nicole Richie, have come together to make a touching video tribute to the much-loved product.
Naturally, a funeral is being held on August 23 in Newport Beach, California and will be attended by the best and baddest from the beauty world, such as Kandee Johnson, Christen Dominique, Katy DeGroot, Shayla Mitchell and Chrisspy.
Richie will deliver the eulogy.
The brand encourages attendees to consider wearing waterproof mascara.
Naked lovers are by turns sad, angry, disappointed, resigned and in disbelief. So basically they're experiencing all the stages of grief.
The palette is being heavily discounted in the US, Canada, Korea and the UK with prices slashed by up to 50 percent. Devotees are naturally flocking to scoop up as many as humanly possibly before this gem is gone for good.
Aussie NAKED-ers, do not despair for we have reached out to Urban Decay retailer MECCA for word.
"MECCA will be discontinuing the NAKED Palette however not until February 2019, which means Australian and New Zealand beauty junkies will be some of the last in the world to be able to get their hands on this original cult palette," a MECCA rep told ten daily.
However, at this stage MECCA does not have plans to discount the palette.
This is (mostly) great news!! But still, *tears*
Let us bow our heads in silent prayer.
