'You Did Good': Serena Williams' Response To Being Asked About Meghan Markle
Serena Williams was questioned about her royal bestie while at a press conference for the Australian Open, and her answer was all class.
The sporting superstar should be collecting just as many 'World's Best Friend' trophies as she has championships.
The 38-year-old tennis ace is currently down under for the Australian Open. And no, before you ask, she will not be answering any questions about her royal bud Meghan Markle, please and thank you.
Williams reportedly shut down a question asked at a press conference encouraging her thoughts on the tumultuous Megxit situation during her post-match interview on Monday.
According to Entertainment Tonight, a reporter took down the exchange, including Williams' tongue-in-cheek response.
"Your good friend, Meghan Markle, who attended your last two slams, and Harry, have taken a move, a stance that many people think is extraordinary and historic. What are your feelings about that? Have you spoken to her?" asked the reporter, according to Ben Rothenberg of The New York Times.
Williams offered a biting reply, invoking a cone of silence.
Yeah, I have absolutely no comments on anything with that. But good try. You tried. You did good.
The A-listers have been close friends for almost ten years, after they first hit it off when they met at the 2010 Superbowl.
Both the royal and the athlete prefer to keep tight-lipped about the details of their friendship, but they're no doubt very fond of each other.
Meghan Markle is regularly spotted court-side cheering on the former world number one. And Williams has shown just as much love for the actress-turn-duchess (turn actress again).
In April last year, Williams hosted a controversial second baby shower for a then-pregnant Meghan in New York City. The star-studded private event was believed to have cost Williams an estimated AUD $109,000.
As one of the most prominent sports stars in the world, Williams has already made a number of headlines during her time in Aus.
During her opening match where she beat Russia's Anastasia Potapova, eagle-eyed fans spotted something particularly special about her fingernails.
Her diamante encrusted manicure featured an adorable little painting of a koala -- a nod to Australia's bushfire crisis and the devastating impact it has had on our wildlife.
Williams, who has trained as a manicurist, has used her dazzling fingertips to draw attention further to the important cause. And this is not the only way she's spoken out about bushfire relief.
After taking out the title at the ATP Auckland Open earlier this month, she announced she would be donating her AUD $62,000 winnings to bushfire relief.
Not only is Serena Williams one of the most decorated athletes of all time, she's also a compassionate activist and, clearly, a very loyal friend.
Meghan's got herself a real ace of a bestie, in more ways than one.
