Meghan Won't Have A Maid Of Honour Or Friends In Her Bridal Party
The reason is surprisingly sweet and relatable.
Meghan Markle's bridal party has been revealed and it's almost too cute to handle. There will be ten members in total made up of four boys and six girls.
Kensington Palace has confirmed Princess Charlotte, 3, will be a bridesmaid while her older brother Prince George, 4, will be a page boy at Saturday's royal wedding at Windsor. How adorable.
Noticeably absent is a maid of honour. Or a single one of Meghan's friends. You might think that it's a bit odd -- the actor has a huge celebrity-packed group of friends after all. But the royal bride-to-be has a very sweet and surprisingly relatable reason for opting for a no-pals-in-the-bridal-party policy.

She simply couldn't choose which of her friends to include. And we've all been there in the lead up to a big event such as a wedding, christening or a birthday party. Agonising over which of her besties would join her at the altar and which would sit in the pews wasn't Meghan's idea of fun -- nor is it ours -- so she simply decided not to choose at all. A classy move if we do say so ourselves.
“[Meghan] has a very close knit group of friends and she does not want to choose one over another,” Prince Harry's communications secretary Jason Knauf said to reporters earlier this month. “She is very pleased to have their support on the day.”
“Her close friends will be supporting her …. but none of them have formal roles.”
Let's not forget that it's royal tradition to have children -- not grown-ups -- make up the bridal party. We don't know why but we love it all the same. Where else do we get to see a flock of gorgeous little ones dressed in cute outfits simply being adorable? We'd never get to see the Duchess of Cambridge attempt to shush a chatty group of youngsters -- including her own children George and Charlotte -- outside her sister's wedding in May 2017, if the oh-so-sweet tradition didn't exist.
Speaking of Kate, she made her own rules when she chose sister Pippa to be her maid of honour in 2011. Royal brides before her -- including Princess Diana -- went without. But that doesn't mean the groom won't have a best man. Prince William will fill that role for his younger brother on the big day.
But back to the kids. Bridesmaid Charlotte and page boy George will head up the ten-strong bridal party. The remaining roles will be filled by a mix of Prince Harry's godchildren and the children of Meghan's close friends. Charlotte will be joined by Florence van Cutsem, 3, who is the goddaughter of Prince Harry and Remi Litt, 6, and Rylan Litt, 7, both Meghan's goddaughters.
The daughter of Meghan’s friend Jessica Mulroney, Ivy, 4, and Zalie Warren, 2, another of Harry's goddaughters, round out the bridesmaid contingent. Page boy George will have Jasper Dyer, 6, Harry's godson and Ivy's brothers Brian and John Mulroney, both 7.
If previous royal weddings are anything to go by -- and with cheeky characters like George and Charlotte in the mix -- we'll most certainly be keeping our eyes out for what might just be the sweetest bridal party ever. Bravo Meghan.
