'Our Sex Life Is Over': Why Gwyneth Paltrow Didn't Live With Her Husband

Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Brad Falchuk now live within the same four walls.

But it wasn't always that way, and the actress turned lifestyle mogul said the switch has had an impact on her sex life.

“So our sex life is over,” Paltrow, 47, joked in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, touching on their choice to move in together.

“I thought it was really interesting how resonant that was for people. One of my best friends was like, ‘That is my dream. Don’t ever move in.’”

In mid 2019, Paltrow explained that she had decided not to live with her husband, despite the pair being happily married. Alternatively they had put in place an agreement that while unconventional, worked for them and their relationship at the time.

For four days a week, they would sleep over at each others' homes in Los Angeles. On days when Falchuk, 48, was with his children from a previous marriage, the two would live in separate places.

Despite being married in 2018 at Paltrow's home in the Hamptons, they didn't move in and live together until a year later. Paltrow said the idea was brought to her attention after speaking to an 'intimacy teacher'.

“I think it certainly helps with preserving mystery and also preserving the idea that this person has their own life,” Paltrow told the magazine.

So this is something I’m trying to remain aware of now as we merge together.

At the time of their decision, Paltrow's ex husband Chris Martin, who she shares daughter Apple, 15, and son Moses, 13, with, had moved into a new relationship with Dakota Johnson. With all the changes happening in the lives of their respective families, they were allowing the 'dust to settle'.

Paltrow discussed her friendship with Johnson, with both couples having spent time together while they holidayed in the Hamptons over the summer.

“I love her. I can see how it would seem weird because it’s sort of unconventional. But I think, in this case, just having passed through it iteratively, I just adore her," Paltrow said of Johnson.

"I always start to think of the ampersand sign—what else can you bring in, instead of being resistant to or being made insecure by? There’s so much juice in leaning into something like that.”

It comes as Paltrow said she doesn't think she will ever act in another movie again, putting her full attention into her lifestyle website 'Goop'.

"Literally never-nev-er. When I was acting I really burned myself out. When the flywheel kicked in, I was doing three to five movies a year," she said.

"I really got to the point where even the little things, like sitting in the van going to set, getting your makeup touch-ups, and everything—I really don’t know that I can bear it."

Paltrow said the last movie she starred in was 'Proof', when she was pregnant which was released in 2005. She said the experience was what made her decide to quit for good.

"I was like, ‘I’ve had it. I can’t do this anymore.’ I had morning sickness and I was dying, and I had these five-page monologues," she said.

"So when I had her, I knew I was going to take a big chunk of time off. And I’ve never starred in anything again."
