The World's Safest Airlines For 2020 Have Been Named

If you have a fear of flying, this is the list for you.

Australian airline Qantas has been named the world's safest airline for 2020 based on their safety record according to AirlineRatings.com.

The ranking is made by evaluating a number of factors including: audits from aviation’s governing and industry bodies, government audits, airline’s crash and serious incident record, profitability, industry-leading safety initiatives and fleet age.

Air New Zealand came in second place while EVA Air and Etihad were named as third and fourth. Yet British Airways and American Airlines didn't make the top 20, despite making the cut in last year's list.

The World's Best Airlines For 2020 Have Been Named

Clear for takeoff.

According to AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas, the top 20 airlines are standouts in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation and launching of new aircraft.

The editors of the website noted the reason Qantas took out the top position was due to 'truly amazing record of firsts in operations and safety and is now accepted as the industry’s most experienced airline.'

Qantas celebrated its centenary in the industry in November last year after entering its 100th year of service.

The airline also launched Project Sunrise, research flight QF7879 which flew direct from London to Sydney. It is only the second time in 30 years that this route has been flown directly.

Further to the list of the safest airlines, the website also named the 10 safest low-cost airlines of 2020, in no particular order.

While the list contained low-cost airlines from America, Britain and India, no budget Australian airlines were included in the list.

An Airport Worker Taught Me The Secret Of Getting A Row To Myself On A Plane

There's nothing quite like the joy of the main cabin door closing just as you've realised there is an empty row of seats next to you so you can spread.

AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas said this list is compiled by look at serious incidents reported by each airline.

“All airlines have incidents every day and many are aircraft manufacture issues, not airline operational problems,” he said.

It is the way the flight crew handles incidents that determines a good airline from an unsafe one.
