The Most Powerful Performance We've Seen At An Awards Show This Year

Lizzo's performance at the 2019 MTV VMAs is for every woman who feels like they've never been seen.

It's not all that often that you see a body at an awards show that doesn't look like a carbon copy of the one that came before it. That's why it's about bloody time someone like Lizzo came along, called it out and loudly and proudly said 'I'm here'.

From the moment you see a giant inflatable ass on stage to her back up dancers with incredible curves, you know this is going to be a performance to remember.

Then Lizzo pulls off her trench coat to uncover a yellow leotard that puts her entire body on show to be beamed across televisions screens all over the world.

She performed "Truth Hurts" and "Good as Hell" and her entire performance had every person in the room cheering and clapping along, including Queen Latifa who the camera continued to pan on to and was standing up and clapping her on.

"Let me talk to y'all for a second. I'm tired of the bullsh*t. And I don't have to know your story to know that you're tired of the bullsh*t too," Lizzo stops mid-performance to say to the audience.

"It's so hard trying to love yourself in a world that doesn't love you back, am I right? So I want to take this opportunity right now to just feel good as hell because you deserve to feel good as hell.

"We deserve to feel good as hell."

The response on social media has been glowing:

"Queen Latifah cheering on Lizzo is officially my favorite thing in the world. Two queens supporting each other," a commenter wrote.

"I cried watching her performance, it was the first time in my life that I saw anyone who looked like me being celebrated and cheered on. She has been such a f*cking inspiration, I LOVE YOU LIZZO!!!" another added.

"I love the message she was sending and her positivity," wrote a third.

And we're sure that message is going to make its way to a lot of people watching who have never seen themselves represented on an MTV VMAs stage.

We have Lizzo to thank for that.
