'I’m Not Doing This Anymore': Why You Haven't Seen Cameron Diaz In Five Years

The actress has been absent from screens since 'Annie' in 2014 and now she's talked about her quiet retreat from public life.

In a new interview, Cameron Diaz said her choice to step out of the spotlight was completely intentional and that she has no plans to return to her previous career as an actress.

“I started [experiencing fame] when I was 22, so 25 years ago — that’s a long time,” Diaz, who turns 47 this month, told InStyle.

“The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public. I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganise and choose how I want to come [back] into the world. If I decide to. I don’t miss performing.”

While the actress, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe four-times, said she has "some things brewing" she didn't elaborate further on the details.

“It’s fun to just not have anybody know what I’m up to,” she said.

“Because my time is all mine. I’m not selling any films, and because I’m not selling anything, I don’t have to give anybody anything. I’m not doing this anymore. I’m living my life.”

Diaz also opened up about her relationship with husband Benji Madden who she has been married to for four years.

“Getting married to him was the best thing that ever happened to me,” she said. “My husband’s the best. He’s the greatest human being, and he’s my great partner."

"I don’t know if I was ready [when I got married], but I knew Benji was special. He’s just a good man. There’s no bullshit. It’s really refreshing. I’m really grateful for him.”

Diaz officially retired from Hollywood in 2018 and said she waited until 41 to get married because she hadn't met the right person.

“I think it’s a matter of I just hadn’t met my husband, you know? I had boyfriends before. And there’s a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends,” Diaz told friend Gwyneth Paltrow at a live event.

“And I have a husband who is just my partner in life and in everything. Talk about two very different people!

"We are so different from one another, but we share the same values — we’re totally two peas in a pod. We are both just weird enough for each other.”
