What Is 'The Pattern'? The App That Has Channing Tatum Shook
After Channing Tatum posted a vid to social media talking about the latest trending app, The Pattern's servers quickly crashed. But what exactly is this eerily accurate astrology app?
"How do you know what you know about me, Pattern?" Tatum asked in a video posted on Saturday, as he demanded the creators of the app DM him with an answer.
"I don't even know if anyone should know this stuff," Tatum said. "I was just in therapy yesterday -- and yeah, I'm in therapy, whatever, everybody should be in therapy -- and I just get a notification on my phone this morning, it pops up, and uses the exact words we were using in therapy... Is the phone listening? Are you listening through the phone?"
Tatum later added, "You know what, Pattern people, you should just call me. That's what should happen right now. You should just DM me... If you know so much, you know how to DM me. I need answers right now."
After the video went viral -- causing The Pattern's servers to crash -- the app's official Instagram account replied to the star with a cheeky message of their own.
Fans of Tatum were quick to download out the mysterious program before the crash, with many coming to the conclusion that it encompasses some sort of psychic wizardry in order to provide such detailed info.
So, if you're still confused as to WTF The Pattern is, don't stress, we've got everything you need to know about the latest must-have social astrology app.
What exactly is 'The Pattern'?
The Pattern is a free, personalised astrology app available for download in the App Store (sorry Android users -- The Pattern is currently only available to iOS users).
Created back in May 2017, the summary on the App Store describes the app as "a social network that helps you better understand yourself and connect with others on a deeper level".
It continues: "Explore your Personal Pattern to gain insight into various sides of your personality. Your Timing offers an overview of what you're going through at this moment in time. These cycles are personal to only you. Understanding these dynamics can help you to navigate the difficult times and take advantage of the positive opportunities that you might otherwise miss."
The app has gained significant traction after a number of high-profile astrology-based Twitter accounts suggested the app to followers.
How does it work?
Users are prompted to type in their astrological birth chart information, including name, gender, date of birth, time and place of birth (ask mum if you're not sure) in order to get a super detailed daily reading.
Once you've done all this, you'll see on the app's main screen that passages are broken up into three sections: Foundation, Development and Relationships -- which are then divided into a total of six aspects of your personality.
There's also a section called “Your Timing,” which explains the cycles in your life based on current astronomical positions.
Unlike 'Co-Star' -- a similar social astrology app -- The Pattern avoids explicitly listing out star signs and speaking in astrological terms, with 'Your Timing' being the only section that directly references astrology, noting active retrogrades or other phenomena.
Why is it so popular?
Along with giving personalised readings, the app includes a social aspect in the form of the ability to add contacts who also use the app or invite friends.
By adding friends, family or partners, you'll have the option to evaluate your compatibility based on a number of various factors based on your (and their) birth charts, rather than solely based on just your star signs.
If your partner isn't a fan of astrology (such a Capricorn mood), you can still suss out your relationship compatibility with your partner, crush or even that random hot dude from your gym that doesn't know you exist yet -- as long as you know their birthday (hello Facebook).
It's also a lot of fun to post the seemingly endless (yet admittedly hilarious) drags dished out by the app.
So, if you -- like us -- are a glutton for punishment and love waking up to artificial intelligence dragging you to hell of a morning, or, if you'd like to gain detailed insight into various aspects of your personality based on your birth chart, then we definitely suggest giving The Pattern a go.
