Prepare to have 'Baby Shark' stuck in your head forever.
In what is sure to excite toddlers while eliciting exasperated groans from parents around the world comes the news that viral song 'Baby Shark' has landed its own TV series on Nickelodeon.
The network struck a deal with Pinkfong’s global entertainment company, SmartStudy, for a series that is based on the popular character as “a terrific original animated series that will bring this property to new heights and even more fans,” says president of Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products, Pam Kaufman, in a statement.
“Baby Shark is a multiplatform phenomenon, and appetite for more content and products is strong around the world,” she added.
The OG video, which was uploaded in June 2016 and featured a family of cartoon sharks singing the frustratingly catchy track, has reached an insane level of popularity among kids, with the video becoming one of 10 most-viewed videos on YouTube ever with more than 2.8 billion views, as well as riding the Billboard Top 100 charts for a massive 20 weeks.
Ramsey Naito, Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon Animation, said it made sense to take on the viral video and develop it into a kids' series.
"At the heart of any popular piece of content is a terrific character, and we have a great opportunity to further explore the world of Baby Shark and follow this family through some great animated adventures on Nickelodeon," Naito said in a statement to USA TODAY.
There is no word yet on when the series is set to debut, but we do know one thing: Baby Shark is here to stay, whether we like it or not.
