We Found Proof Meghan Markle's Always Had A Soft Spot For Australian Culture

Meghan Markle wowed crowds in Dubbo on Wednesday by turning up to a local family’s farm with some homemade banana bread in tow.

It’s understood The Duchess whipped up the sweet treat the night before in the kitchen at Admiralty House -- and even added her own special twist to the classic: popping some chocolate chips and a little ginger into the mix.

But this certainly isn’t the first time the former TV starlet has shown a predilection for reinventing a classic in the kitchen.

And even though this visit is her first to the land Down Under, it seems Meghan has always held something of a soft spot for Aussie culture.

A look back through recipes on her now defunct blog The Tig (you’ll remember she ended up having to shut it down when things got serious between her and Prince Harry) Meghan posted a recipe for an Aussie classic: Spelt Anzac Biscuits.

The blog post not only shows that Meghan has a keen interest in healthy eating -- she’s also more than happy to indulge her sweet tooth now and again -- but the Duchess is a firm fan of one of our favourite bikkies of All Time.

Ahh, a girl after our own hearts.

According to the post, Meghan got the recipe from fellow foodie and web entrepreneur Nicole Joy, whom she describes as a “native Australian with a passion for healthy living”.

So, because we know your mouth is no doubt watering, here's the recipe for you:

Meghan Markle's Spelt Anzac Biscuits (via Nicole Joy) 

  1. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees C (300 F) and line a baking tray with non-stick baking paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the spelt flour, coconut, sugar and salt in a large bowl.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt the coconut oil then add the Maple syrup, vanilla and bi-carb soda.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir well. Add the water before shaping into balls and flattening with a fork.
  5. Bake for about 25 minutes and allow to cool for 30 minutes. I like mine crunchy so I actually left them in the oven (turned off) for an extra 5-10 minutes. Err on the lower side of 25 minutes if you prefer chewy.

Makes 12 biscuits.
