'There's Grayness To His Skin': Will And Jada-Pinkett Smith's Fears Over Son's Vegan Diet
Jada Pinkett Smith said her concerns for Jaden were so great, she and husband Will Smith had to stage an intervention to address his eating habits.
Jada explained during the premiere of Season 2 of her Facebook Watch series, 'Red Table Talk' that her eldest child and son, Jaden Smith, 21, was following a vegan diet that began to cause her and her husband serious concern.
"Will and I had a bit of an intervention with Jaden because he's a vegan now, but we realised he wasn't getting enough protein," Jada said.
"So he was wasting away. He just looked drained, he was just depleted. He wasn't getting the nutrients."
Will added that even just the sight of his son began to make him worry with concern for the state of his health.
"He had the dark circles under his eyes, there was even a little grayness to his skin. And we got really nervous," Will said.
Jaden further explained that his health took a turn for the worst after he tried to go vegan, having been a vegetarian for the last year.
"I was just eating like two meals a day. And maybe one," Jaden said. "Maybe just that one big meal and then I'm like, 'Oh, you know I didn't get around to it.'"
Jaden went on to say right before attending Coachella, his stress level was 'at an eight' and this combined with his vegan diet lead to him feeling unwell, with Will adding that he didn't look healthy at the time.
"I was not doing good," Jaden said. "I wasn't looking good, I wasn't feeling good, I wasn't sleeping. I also had that one time when I threw up like all day."
Jaden said that during a trip to Australia, he also began to suffer from nausea and dizziness which lead to a hospital admission.
"I was in so much pain in my stomach in the emergency room but it was just one of those things where they gave me like, some pills. They never tell you [what's wrong]," he said.
His younger sister, Willow, 18, said that the health scare almost made her leave the country to visit him in Australia in order to be by his side.
"That scared me," Willow said. "I was about to hop on the plane to Australia."
Jada candidly said that the entire Smith family has been guilty of putting their physical appearance before their health.
"We all have issues with food in this family," Jada said.
The Smith family are now working with nutritionist to help them better manage their diet and eating habits.
