Here's How To Tell If Your Date Is Lying To You

Ever go on a date with someone you thought you totally clicked with only to have them, well, never contact you again?

Turns out there is a way to figure out whether or not that person sitting opposite from you is legit well before the dreaded next day SMS-anxiety rolls around.

Meet Steve van Aperen, aka The Human Lie Detector. Not only has van Aperen trained with the FBI and US Secret Service, but he's also helped police with more than 70 homicide investigations. So here are some of his tips.

Pay Attention

According to van Aperen, talk is cheap, so while your date might promise a lot, the best way to tell if they're a keeper is by their actions. If your date is interested they will always take the time to contact you.

If somebody's committed there will be signs. It will be flowers and phone calls and text messages and all the rest of it, whereas if they're just using words to just try to impress, often they won't follow up on what their promises are.

TL;DR: if someone wants to be with you, they will be.

Ask Questions

While it can sometimes seem awkward trying to figure out where the relationship might be headed, van Aperen said being honest is always the best way forward.

"If there's any doubt in your mind, ask those good, direct, probing questions, and ask what's their view on being involved in a committed relationship," he said.

Our body language should match the spoken word.

So watch how they respond -- if they shake their head while answering in the positive then they're probably not being entirely truthful.
