Meghan Markle Attends Friend's Wedding On Her Birthday

Half-sister Samantha takes the opportunity to tweet a backhanded birthday wish.

Meghan Markle has spent her first birthday as a Royal celebrating someone else's special day.

The Duchess of Sussex turned 37 on August 4 and spent the day with husband Prince Harry attending the wedding of one of his childhood friends, Charlie Van Straubenzee, to Daisy Jenks.

Prince Harry was best man at the ceremony, in the village of Frensham, southwest of London.

Harry braved the heat in a morning suit, including pinstriped trousers, blue waistcoat and tie, and long jacket. Meghan wore a short-sleeved collared navy dress with a colourful, pleated sheer skirt by designer Club Monaco. Her simple black fascinator was from Philip Treacy.

The royal couple, who have only been married for just over two months are enjoying a quiet August as they gear up for a big tour of Fiji, Tonga, New Zealand and Australia in October. The duo will spend a lot of their time in Sydney for the Invictus Games.

Meanwhile Markle’s half-sister Samantha used the occasion to hit out at the Duchess, telling her to send their dad a “belated card” after he turned 74.

The tweet, on Samantha Markle's private account, was published as a screenshot by The Daily Mail.

"Happy birthday Meg! It would be so lovely and appropriate of you to send DAD a BELATED birthday card for his July 18th @Kensington Royal Cheers."

It has been reported that at the time of Thomas Markle's 74th birthday the reclusive former Emmy Award-winning director hadn't spoken to his daughter in at least two months -- but he wished to send a card.

"It's her birthday on August 4 and I want to send her a card," Markle told The Daily Mail.

"But if I send a birthday card to Kensington Palace, or wherever she’s living now, it’ll just be one among thousands. She’ll probably never see it."

Markle shares her birthday with Barack Obama, and the late Queen Mother, who would have been 118.
