Instagram Can Now Tell You How Much Time You're Wasting On Instagram

Be afraid, be very afraid.

In  the most meta moment of today, Instagram can now tell you how long you're spending wasting time... on Instagram.

The update of the app will soon come with a new feature where you can see exactly how much time you're spending scrolling, liking, DMing and Insta-stalking every day. Terrifyingly there in blue and white for you to see. Your time on Insta and Facebook. And it may come as quite a shock when you factor in all the mindless scrolling you do.

It's actually been developed to help the brands foster some  guidelines for online useage,  and comes as part of three new tools --  the activity dashboard, a daily reminder and a new way to limit notifications.

"We developed these tools based on collaboration and inspiration from leading mental health experts and organizations, academics, our own extensive research and feedback from our community.," says a press release from Instagram. "We want the time people spend on Instagram and Facebook to be intentional, positive and inspiring. Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms and also foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them.

To access the tools, go to the settings page on either app, says the release. On Instagram, tap “Your Activity,” and on Facebook, tap “Your Time on Facebook.” At the top, you’ll see a dashboard showing your average time for that app on that device and you can then tap any bar to see your total time for that day.

"Below the dashboard, you can set a daily reminder to give yourself an alert when you’ve reached the amount of time you want to spend on that app for that day. You can change or cancel the reminder at any time.

You can also tap on “Notification Settings” to quickly access the new “Mute Push Notifications” setting. This will limit your Instagram or Facebook notifications for a period of time when you need to focus."

They're rolling them out soon, so keep your Apps up to date if you're interested in knowing the truth about your use of social media (or if you do really want to monitor it).

And remember to turn a blind eye if you don't want to know.
