Amanda Keller: "I Would Wear Runners On The Red Carpet If I Could"

Her sneakers are on standby, and she's ready to win the gold.

Amanda Keller is no stranger to the TV Week Logie Awards and this year's ceremony might be her most memorable one yet -- she's vying for the coveted Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television.

And she's in good company too, because she's joined by fellow nominees -- and super-talented peeps -- Grant Denyer, Jessica Marais, Andrew Winter, Rodger Corser, and Tracy Grimshaw.

But despite previously taking home three Logies for Best Lifestyle Program with her Living Room co-stars Chris Brown, Barry Du Bois, and Miguel Maestre, this is the first time she's received a nod for the Gold Logie and for Most Popular Presenter.

"It's great just to be nominated," Keller told ten daily.

She added it would be especially nice to take home an award this year given that some of her most significant television moments happened on The Living Room in the last 12 months.

"My most memorable moment EVER on television was when Barry told us all, and the audience, that his cancer had returned and I just think TV does not get more real than that," the 56-year-old said.

"As a family, we laugh a lot together and this year we've cried a bit, too. But I think Barry's honesty and how he's dealt with [his illness] and bringing the audience into his story and sharing it with them was particularly moving."

While The Living Room has gone from strength to strength, Keller admitted she never expected the show would run for so long.

"I remember at the beginning thinking, I wish we could cut to six months down the track where the show had found its feet, and here we are seven years later and these men are my best friends in the world," she said.

"I think it's just the connection that we have on the show, and the people who let us into their own living rooms every Friday night, it's made this show so special and that's what's given up these nominations."

As one of the hot contenders for the Gold Logie, being red-carpet ready is a must, so Keller has been exploring all of her fashion options -- but she admitted she prefers a somewhat understated look.

"Oshkosh have approached me for a pair dungarees to wear on the night -- she's joking of course -- but seriously, I've already sorted out a dress.

"Normally I'm so bad at this and I do it at the last minute but this year I thought I wouldn't do that so I used the designer I used last year," she said.

"So I'm already locked and loaded on my flannelette ... but if I could just wear runners on the red carpet I would."

At the 2017 TV Week Logie Awards Keller chose a stunning floor-length navy number by Australian designer Mary Loannidis, so no doubt this year's gown will be just as spectacular.

One thing's for sure, Keller won't make the same mistake she did at her very first Logies in the early '80s, which she attended while working for the popular children's television show, Simon Townsend's Wonder World.

"I was cleaning my teeth while wearing my dress and in the cab I noticed a stain. It looked like a bird had done a number two on my shoulder ... so all through the night I'd catch sight of the white stain -- rookie mistake," she said.

Whether she wins the Gold or not, Amanda said she's absolutely loving life.

"I love that these are my best years yet -- but I've thought that at every stage throughout my life," she said.

"I feel very lucky and I'm trying to be one of THOSE people, and I learned this from Barry -- even though he's battling cancer, he says he's the happiest guy in the world and just living each moment. And I'm trying to be more like that."
