Susan Sarandon Meets The Queen, Ignores Royal Protocol Altogether

Her Majesty's reaction was rather unexpected.

We all know what it's like when you're happily watching the polo -- stay with us -- and someone pops out of nowhere to say hi. Disaster.

All you want is to watch men on horses hit a ball with golf clubs -- that's what polo is, right? -- in peace.

Not when you're Her Majesty The Queen, it seems. She and husband Prince Philip were taking in the Royal Windsor Cup grand final on Sunday when none other than Hollywood icon Susan Sarandon bowls on up to bid them good day.

The Thelma & Louise star didn't mind her p's and q's either. Instead of waiting to be formally introduced to the monarch -- as per royal protocol -- Ms Sarandon simply took matters into her own hands. Quite literally.

The 71-year-old Oscar-winner -- who sported a white mini-dress and red wedges -- was seen to throw out her arm to shake hands with the Queen, whose reaction was rather unexpected.

The 92-year-old monarch took the unexpected introduction in her stride, smiling politely and reportedly having a quick convo with the actor.

Prince Philip, 97, however seemed mystified about his wife's new friend. Has he not seen Step-Mom? The Rocky Horror Picture Show? Bless him.

While we're not sure why Sarandon popped up at an English polo match, we totally get her royal enthusiasm. We can't guarantee that we wouldn't ditch protocol and say g'day to Liz if we had the chance either.

So you do you Susan, and we'll continue to enjoy every minute.
