Is This Where Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Will Be Spending Their Honeymoon?

BRB: packing for Canada.

Word is our favourite royal newlyweds are set to honeymoon in Canada. It's being reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have their eye on the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta for their post-wedding getaway. And gosh does it sound delightful.

This slice of Canadian paradise is nestled deep within Jasper National Park in the breathtaking Canadian Rockies. Harry and Meghan have reportedly booked out the exclusive -- and very private -- Outlook Cabin.

This particular luxury cabin is nicknamed the Royal Retreat -- and for good reason. Prince Harry’s great-grandparents King George VI and Queen Elizabeth stayed there in 1939. The Queen and Prince Philip also holidayed there in 2005. So it has its share of royal history. Harry should feel right at home.

Meghan won’t feel left out as the location has a Hollywood connection as well. It's where actors Marilyn Monroe and Robert Mitchum filmed River of No Return in 1954. And let’s not forget that the Duchess of Sussex called Canada home for several years while shooting for the TV series Suits.

While we don’t know when the royal duo will touch down in Canada (or even if they will to be totally frank) we’re sure of one thing. They must be keen as mustard to get their honeymoon underway. They did have to delay their plans so they could attend Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebrations on May 22 after all.

Yep that’s right – the newlyweds made their first official appearance as a married couple just three days after tying the knot. But that didn’t stop the speculation over when – and where – the glamorous twosome would jet away to for some well-deserved R&R.

Initial reports had Meghan and Harry flying to Queensland for a romantic getaway. And weren’t we beside ourselves. Meghan’s former Suits co-star Jacinda Barrett is an Aussie and she and hubby Gabriel Macht – also of Suits – were said to have offered to let the royal couple stay at their Noosa property. Sweet.

Considering the Duke and Duchess plan to head down under as part of their first official tour as a married couple in October, we think the two might stick to the northern hemisphere for their honeymoon plans. It is an awfully long journey from the UK to us here in Australia.

That said, plenty of royals have chosen hot spots north of the equator for their post-wedding getaways. Harry's parents Prince Charles and the late Princess Di enjoyed a tour of the Mediterranean aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia in 1981. Dreamy.

Charles’ brother Prince Andrew took his new wife Sarah Ferguson to the Azores Islands off the coast of Portugal in 1986. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge bucked tradition ever so slightly in 2011 when they picked the Seychelles, just south of the equator off Africa’s east coast.

If Harry and Meghan do choose to head across the Atlantic rather than south to us in Oz -- sigh -- we’re sure they’ll have a fab time. Their 6,000 square-foot Outlook Cabin boasts stunning views, enclosed verandas and a majestic stone fireplace – perfect for cosy evenings in.
