James Corden’s Date For The Royal Wedding Is Not Who You’d Expect
They make a cheeky pair.
Brit funny man James Corden has scored an invite to the royal wedding on Saturday May 19 and we couldn’t be happier for him. The actor and comedian is not only set to attend Harry and Meghan’s ceremony at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, but both of the receptions as well. Score.
So who’s he going to bring as his date? You’d be forgiven for thinking it’d be his gorgeous wife Julia Carey who stepped out with him at the 2018 Met Gala.
But you’d be wrong. By all reports Corden, 39, will be accompanied by his producing partner Ben Winston.
Emmy Award-winning producer Winston is behind The Late Late Show’s wildly popular ‘Carpool Karaoke’ segment and has worked with Corden for many years. That’s all well and good but why is Corden going stag instead of bringing his wife? The short answer is we don’t know. It’s more than likely that Carey has kindly taken on kid duty so her hubby can have a day out. The couple are parents to son Max, 7, and daughters Carey, 3, and six-month-old Charlotte.
Whatever the reason we’re predicting a lot of hijinks from Corden and Winston, at least at the second more intimate reception hosted by Prince William.
The Late Late Show host is a long-time pal of Prince Harry’s and has been seen club-hopping with the royal in London over the years. But his friendship with Harry isn’t Corden’s only tie with the British royal family. Corden -- who hosted the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in January -- was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to drama in 2015. He received the honour from the Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, at Buckingham Palace.
That’s not all. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were said to have received a lovely gift from Corden upon the birth of their third child. Prince Louis, who was born on April 23, was sent a 23-book Beatrix Potter collection by Corden, himself a father of three. It’s a fitting choice of gift as Corden voiced the character of Peter Rabbit in the 2018 animated film of the same name.
But all that wasn’t enough to convince Corden that he would actually receive an invite. That’s right. The late-night TV personality was so sure that he didn’t make the list of 600 or so lucky wedding guests that he turned his attention to Harry’s bachelor party instead. “I don’t think I’ll be [at the wedding] … he’s going to have a hell of a bachelor party -- that’s what I’m looking forward to,” he said in January this year.
We don’t know if or when Haz’s buck’s do will take place (if it hasn’t already) however it seems as though Corden’s FOMO about the wedding was wholly unfounded. The Gavin & Stacey star will be in good company on the day with the likes of George and Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, the Spice Girls, Priyanka Chopra and more stars also invited to the biggest event of the year. And we cannot wait to watch it all unfold.
