Why Mel C's Daughter Was The Only 'Spice Kid' Who Wasn't On Stage At Reunion Tour
Melanie Chisholm -- best known as Mel C -- has explained why we didn't spot her daughter Scarlet on stage at the Spice Girls' reunion show at Wembley last year.
Chatting to The Project panel while promoting her newest musical releases in the country, Sporty Spice reflected on her incredible career that kicked off in the late '90s.
"It’s strange... it's like watching somebody I know really well," she said after a highlight reel of her back catalogue played.
Mel said that the whirlwind of Spice-Mania felt like it flashed before her eyes and, looking back, she said she wished she had stopped to smell the roses a little more.
"I think it would be to be more present and enjoy the moment," she said, of advice she'd give her younger self.
"Because, you know, when you’re a kid, you don't really think about the end of anything, do you? You're just living it and I kind of wish... it was so crazy, we travelled so much, we were so busy and then it just felt like it was over in a flash."
The pop star said the iconic group has had the opportunity in their older years to soak in some of the surreal highlights with their performance at the 2012 London Olympics and at their Spice World 2019 tour.
"With that experience, we said, 'Come on, this is going to be over so quickly, let’s really look at each other and soak it all up and we had all these wonderful visual pictures of the stage," she said.
"And of course, when we did Wembley last year, we went in with the same attitude to just appreciate every second."
The Spice Girls' highly anticipated 2019 tour was the first time that her now 11-year-old daughter had seen her mum as Sporty Spice.
"She was 10 last summer and, at first, I think it was quite overwhelming for her and then she got into the swing of it," Mel explained to the panel.
"And there's loads of kids and they're all good buddies and she got a bit blasé at the end," she joked. "I'm definitely a little bit cooler, I'm still a little bit embarrassing, as parents should be".
But while Scarlet settled into the new experience of seeing her mum on stage with Baby, Scary, and Ginger -- Mel C explained why she was the only famous child not to appear on stage during the final show at Wembley last year.
"I like to keep her private, I really value her privacy so she was the only Spice Kid that didn't come on stage, so she hated me," she said.
"But she understands, we've talked about it at length and she understands the reasons why I'm doing that."
The Spice Girls ended their 2019 tour with an emotional performance of "Mama" surrounded by their mums and kids -- minus Scarlet.
