Introducing Kalo Kalo: A Guide To The 12 All Stars Who've Made It To Merge

It's the milestone that every Survivor contestant sets their sights on from the very beginning -- making it to the halfway point in the competition that changes everything.

With the ceremonial dropping of the buffs, Jonathan La Paglia oversees the moment when two tribes become one and the game pivots sharply to focus on the individual.

Merge signals a complete shift in the game with contestants no longer playing as part of a team. Existing power structures crumble as challenge beasts -- once relied upon to save their tribe from a vote -- are suddenly viewed as challenge threats.

Reward and immunity challenges also become less physical and more focused on strategy and endurance, levelling the playing field to give every type of Survivor player a fair crack at making it to the top two.

The dissolution of Mokuta and Vakama has made way for the birth of Kalo Kalo -- a Fijian phrase that translates to "a luminous celestial body" or colloquially, a star. Get it?

The All Stars who have made it to merge this year are a curious bunch of physical, strategic and social players and there's no telling who'll team up, who'll fall out and who will be next on the blindside chopping block.

'It Became Quite Intimidating For Them': Nick Explained Why Mokuta Gave Him The Boot

Nick Iadanza is undoubtedly the most devoted Survivor super fan to play on the Australian series -- but his extensive knowledge of the game might have contributed to his downfall.

There are five contestants who never made it to the halfway point in their original seasons: AK, Jacqui, Moana, Tarzan and Zach.

While the other seven rounding out Kalo Kalo have made it all the way to second place (Sharn and Lee), third place (Harry), fourth place (Shonee),  fifth place (Locky), seventh place (Brooke) and tenth place (David).

AK

Former tribe: Vakama.

AK has been christened 'The Accountant' by his Vakama tribe mates for his ability to project the outcomes of any given situation on Australian Survivor: All Stars. Using the sand as his notebook and a trusty stick as his pen, AK has been furiously scribbling out potential alliances, swing voters and threats.

The wedding DJ has finessed his game from the last time he played in Season 2 and has remained tight with his alliance consisting of Brooke, Locky and now Harry and Shonee.

It was the Sliding Doors moment that ultimately decided Nick Iadanza's fate in the game.

Brooke

Former tribe: Vakama.

Brooke entered All Stars with one important objective: to blindisde the woman who orchestrated her own brutal exit from the game in Season 1 -- Ms Flick Eggington.

Brooke and Flick were both placed on Vakama from the start and it seemed as though their history was water under the bridge as the pair worked together in an alliance that gave both John and Mat the boot.

But revenge is a dish best-served ice cold and when the right moment arose, Brooke struck and Flick's torch was snuffed. Brooke now joins Kalo Kalo with Locky, AK, Shonee and Harry and potentially David on her side.

David

Former tribes: Vakama, Mokuta 2.0.

Look, we'd be here all week if we tried to list David's All Stars CV because he's been exacting revenge on everyone who's ever crossed him or who he's perceived as any kind of threat in the game.

Amazingly, David has only been sent to tribal four times in the last 12 votes -- but every name he's written down -- Jericho, Daisy, Phoebe, Nick -- has immediately left the game.

Dave's secret partnership with Mat came to an end after tribe swap but he's since aligned with the footy legend's 2IC, Moana. While she initially mistrusted Dave, they've since worked together, becoming an unstoppable force on Mokuta.

Did we mention he still has two idols up his sleeve?

Harry

Harry earnt himself a laundry list of nicknames during Season 4 including Dirty Harry and the Cockroach and gained fans everywhere for creating a fake son, but he's played a more subdued game for All Stars.

The ice-cream loving Perth boy started his game off on Mokuta where he was sitting in the middle of the pack but his swap to Vakama has seen him team up with Shonee, Brooke, Locky and AK.

Harry discovered an advantage that would give him the power to stop any tribal council and negate all votes -- but was twice talked out of using it by his alliance which led to Nick's elimination from the game.

Time will tell whether he made the correct decision in not saving his Little Rascals pal from leaving the game.

The Surprising Challenge Beasts Of Australian Survivor: All Stars

While the Olympians, athletes and Gladiators of the Survivor world are celebrated for their strength and endurance, we don't often sing the praises of the modest challenge beasts.

Jacqui

Former tribes: Vakama, Mokuta 2.0.

Jacqui's alliance with Moana and Tarzan has remained as rock-solid as the muscles she's acquired as a competition-level bodybuilder.

While she and Tarzan are the best-placed contestants in the game to pull off a stunning blindside, they are yet to betray the leader that's helped protect them all the way to merge.

Jacqui enters Kalo Kalo with Moana and Tarzan as well as Mokutans Lee, Sharn, David and Zach.

Locky

Former tribe: Vakama.

Locky knows what it takes to go far in this game and will be a formidable threat now that team challenges are a thing of the past.

The adventure guide started All Stars as part of a majority alliance with David, Daisy, Brooke, Phoebe, AK and Flick and continued to dominate the votes after tribe swap -- giving both Mat and John the boot.

He enters Kalo Kalo with his Survivor wife Brooke, his accountant AK and newfound alliance members Shonee and Harry.

Lee

Image: Network 10.

Former tribe: Mokuta.

Lee has played a solid, yet understated game because he knows exactly how to play Survivor all the way to the end and it's not by striking too early.

The former cricketer adopted and farewelled his bogan son John before tribe swap and has since become part of the core voting group with Sharn, Zach, Jacqui, and Tarzan that's being led by Moana.

Moana

Image: Network 10.

Former tribe: Vakama, Mokuta 2.0.

Moana's first time playing Survivor ended prematurely because of illness so we never really got to see just how cunning her strategic gameplay really is.

Aligning early on with Mat, she acquired her unbending foot soldiers Jacqui and Tarzan who joined Mokuta with her following tribe swap.

Mo has played a silent yet deadly game, observing minute facials expressions and the body language of her tribe from the comfort of the shelter.

Sharn

Image: Network 10.

Former tribe: Mokuta.

Sharn shares a lot of similarities with Lee, her fellow runner-up who understands the unique experience of playing every single day of the game without actually winning.

The barrister was attempting to play both sides of the vote on Mokuta and very nearly got burned after she voted for Moana and then Nick on the same evening.

The Golden God exclaimed in horror afterward that "Sharn is a snake!" so she's had to go into damage control to prove that she's team Dave and Mo.

Shonee

Former tribes: Mokuta, Vakama 2.0.

We were very concerned that this skilled social player, idol hunter and style icon was close to leaving the game after the Mokutan athletes' alliance continued to write her name down at tribal.

But the cat with nine lives elegantly clawed her way back and used the tribe swap to make new friends and get rid of her enemies.

Her Survivor CV is looking as gorgeous as the coat on a Dalmatian puppy and if she can make it all the way to the final two, she'll have a lot to brag about.

Tarzan

Former tribes: Vakama, Mokuta 2.0.

The Queensland lime farmer landed on Vakama and became close with his island wife Jacqui and athletes Mat and Moana. The minority soon gained power following tribe swap, mostly because their collective loyalty to each other is unshakeable!

Tarzan enters Kalo Kalo with a strong alliance surrounding him and a not too shabby record in winning immunity and reward challenge.

Zach

Image: Network 10.

Former tribe: Mokuta.

While Zach ruffled a lot of feathers the last time he played, he's made a conscious effort to concentrate on his social game on All Stars.

The two-time Mokutan had little to no power in the tribe's first iteration but has since earned a very powerful ally in David since tribe swap.

'Australian Survivor: All Stars' airs Monday-Wednesday at 7.30 pm. Only on 10 and WIN Network.
