Dancing With The Stars 2020: How Our Celebs Fared During Their Dancefloor Debut

Opening night on 'Dancing With The Stars' introduced us to the celebs who are shimmying their way towards $50,000 for their chosen charity.

It was a good week for judge Craig Revel Horwood to be absent because with famed choreographer Mandy Moore sitting in his seat it meant we had three nice judges for the stars' first week on the floor.

Here's how they went!

Celia Pacquola

The dance: Cha Cha Cha

The song:  "Juice"-  Lizzo.

The lowdown: While Celia seemed to think they were doing the can-can when Jarrad announced which dance they'd be tackling, she soon caught on to the rhythm of the cha-cha-cha.

Even though Celia confessed she really hates touching strangers, she said the nerves associated with dancing on live TV meant things have changed a little.

"The fear means I’m clinging on to him too much, I’m getting a little clingy. "

The first celeb out of the gate, Celia and Jarrad nailed their '80s themed routine and scored a very respectable devil's number from the judges.

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 6, Sharna Burgess: 6, Tristan Macmanus: 6.

Dancing With The Stars 2020: Here Are The Charities Our Celebs Are Dancing For

One of these 10 stars will sashay their way to the mirrorball trophy, and all for a good cause.

Ed Kavalee

The song: "It Had To Be You" - Tony Bennett.

The dance: Foxtrot.

The lowdown: Tristan might have nicknamed the comedian 'Ed Astaire' a little prematurely but the 'HYBPA' star scored some pretty good feedback from the judges and a not-too-shabby score.

While he was praised for his "unique take on the Foxtrot", Ed was advised to maybe tone down his facial expressions next week.

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 5, Sharna Burgess: 4, Tristan Macmanus: 5.

The stars weren't just on the dancefloor tonight, with superstar Olivia Newton-John sitting front row to cheer on her daughter Chloe Lattanzi.

Chloe Lattanzi

The dance: Foxtrot

The song: Love Song - "Sara Bareilles".

The lowdown: The daughter of dancing royalty Olivia Newton-John and Matt Lattanzi was nervous about stepping back on stage but absolutely wowed the judges with her dance partner, Gustavo. We can't wait to see what she brings to the dancefloor next week.

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 5, Sharna Burgess: 6, Tristan Macmanus: 7.

On the premiere episode of 'Dancing With The Stars,' a surprise audience member shocked Chloe Lattanzi.

Christian Wilkins

The dance: Tango

The song: Billie Eilish - "Bad Guy".

The lowdown: Christian and Lily might be our favourite couple so far and they gave the tango a red-hot go with the intense facial expressions to match. Christian said he was channelling "animal noises and Naomi Campbell on the catwalk" and the judges were all about it.

Mandy Moore loved the routine and said it was "sexy, strong and everything I wanted the tango to be".

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 6, Sharna Burgess: 6, Tristan Macmanus: 6.

Dean Wells

The dance: The cha-cha

The song: "U Can't Touch This" - MC Hammer.

The lowdown: We definitely weren't prepared to see the former 'Married At First Sight' star breakdancing in a high-vis vest on a Sunday night but here we are! Dean explained that his enthusiasm was due to him being a "terrible dancer".

Tristan commented that Dean danced like "90 percent of my mates" and it "wasn't a good dance" but that he loved it -- we're not sure what to think.

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 4, Sharna Burgess: 3, Tristan Macmanus: 4.

Angie Kent

The dance: Foxtrot.

The song: "Grace Kelly" - Mika.

The lowdown: "I blanked out, hey," Angie said after her first foxtrot around the 'Dancing' arena. Our Bachelorette admitted she was still mastering the art of breathing and dancing at the same time but she managed to give us a very fun performance with some signature Angie facial expressions.

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 5, Sharna Burgess: 5, Tristan Macmanus: 4.

From 'Race' To Rhumba: Beau Ryan Talks Gruelling Training For DWTS

He reckons he has no idea how to dance, but that didn't stop 'The Amazing Race Australia' host Beau Ryan from joining this year's star-studded round-up for 'Dancing With The Stars'.

Beau Ryan

The dance: The cha-cha-cha

The song: "Bills" - LunchMoney Lewis.

Even though Beau said that dance rehearsals felt like going back to school and like being stuck in prison, he gave it his all, stripping off into a singlet midway through the choreo.

Tristan noted that Beau's got "natural talent and a great personality" but that he needs to let loose a little more and show it on the dancefloor.

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 4, Sharna Burgess: 4, Tristan Macmanus: 5.

Travis Cloke

The dance: The Viennese waltz.

The song: "Give Me Love" - Ed Sheeran.

Travis surprised himself with the tenderness he brought to the dancefloor and Amanda Keller was certainly impressed. Mandy said the technical aspects fell to the wayside because she was entranced by Travis' performance and Shana noted that it was the first dance of the night that gave her "the feels".

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 6 Sharna Burgess: 6, Tristan Macmanus: 5.

Claudia Karvan

The dance: The cha-cha-cha

The song: "Chain of Fools" - Aretha Franklin.

The lowdown: Claudia noted that, as an actor, she's used to following a script but her performance scored a "holy crap" out of Sharna which is a pretty good sign, if you ask us. Claudia's slick cha-cha-cha earned her the highest score of the night with sevens across the board.

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 7 Sharna Burgess: 7, Tristan Macmanus: 7.

While Chloe Lattanzi is still learning the ropes when it comes to waltzes and foxtrots -- it was dancing that first brought her parents together.

Dami Im

The dance: The Viennese waltz.

The lowdown: Dami Im said a lot of people assume that because she's got a powerful voice, she's probably got the dance moves to match. And while she still has a long way to go in polishing her technique, Dami sure impressed us with this graceful waltz.

The verdict: Mandy Moore: 5, Sharna Burgess: 4, Tristan Macmanus: 5.
