I’m A Celebrity 2020: Perez Hilton Explains Why He Sprinted Out Of Camp

After Monday night’s announcement that he'd be the next celebrity to leave camp, Perez Hilton practically bolted from the jungle.

Speaking to 10 daily after the dust had settled from his speedy departure, the gossip guru explained why his exit closely mirrored how he left the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2015.

“I bolted from camp because I was genuinely thrilled to leave today,” Perez said. “Feeling super accomplished having done so many trials, having met some amazing people whom I will keep in touch with forever.”

Before the other celebs in camp had enough time to get off their logs, Perez was hot on the heels of Chris and Julia, not giving them the option to give him a proper farewell.

‘It’s Challenging Dating When You’re Perez Hilton’: Gossip Guru Opens Up About Single Life

During an episode of Tanya Hennessy’s jungle podcast recorded in the ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ camp, Perez Hilton revealed that he hasn’t had sex in four years.

“At that moment, the adrenaline -- I could not run faster out of there,” he said, adding, “especially because today came on the heels of my worst day in camp, which was actually not a trial day. It was my brain telling myself throughout the entire day, ‘YOU’RE STARVING!’”

Admitting that ‘I’m A Celebrity’ was harder than he expected, Perez said that around his seventh day in camp the hunger really began to get to him. Causing him headaches and nausea, Perez said he was “melting down because my brain is thinking it’s starving, and I was! I lost 10lbs in eight days.”

Though he was only in camp for a few days, Perez managed to rack up quite an impressive tucker trial scorecard. Devouring some tasty treats in Oh My Gob and breaking the ‘I’m A Celebrity Australia’ record for the Viper Room trial, Perez also conquered the Buns of Steel bungee jumping not once but twice to score a full suite of stars for the camp.

I’m A Celebrity 2020: Camp Divided In Heated Banana Split

While some celebs thought a democratic approach to breakfast was apeeling, things quickly turned into a banana republic.

“Failure was just not an option,” he said, “simple as that.”

While it wasn’t an option, Perez did fail somewhat when it came to placing a pickle on a giant burger target during his first attempt. So petrified of having to do the jump, he said he wasn’t even sure if he had his eyes open at first.

“The second time the crew told me all the things I did wrong,” he said. “[They] gave me some much-needed advice.

"I listened very carefully because I did not want to have to do it a second time and not get it. I just did it.”

Despite his short time with the group, one celeb really made an impact, Miguel Maestre.

“Everything about Miguel surprised me,” Perez said, “I was surprised by not just what an instant, powerful and healing presence he was to me, but I was just so floored by what a beautiful human and inspiring person he is.”

On the topic of the rest of his former campmates, Perez was -- for the most part -- quite positive.

“I had no idea who any of these celebrities were before I started watching the show,” he said. “Then, I had the real pleasure of getting to know them and becoming a fan… of most of them.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! airs Sunday to Thursday at 7.30 on 10 and 10 Play.
