Dave Hughes Talks New 'Hughesy, We Have A Problem', Marie Kondo, And Prostate Exams
With 'Hughesy, We Have A Problem' set to return to 10 on Jan 20 at 9 pm, we caught up with the comedian to find out what new problems he's been dealing with over the holidays.
He may be the king of solving problems for the general public on 'Hughesy, We Have A Problem', but for Dave Hughes, his latest grievance has come from a very unlikely source -- Marie Kondo.
"We were late to the party and finally watching Marie Kondo over the holidays -- the decluttering woman -- and I decided to make it my life's mission to declutter our house, which is a massive job," Hughesy told 10 daily.
"So I open every cupboard and there's just so much stuff! It's just constant trips trying to take stuff out of the house. I've gotten rid of all my books, but even yesterday I had a mate who was talking about the book that he wrote, and I told him I gave it to the Op Shop -- and he was heartbroken!" he continued.
"I'm like, mate, I've read the book, now someone else at the op shop can read it!" he added.
And while Marie Kondo's methods failed to spark joy for the comedian, there's one thing that does -- laughing at his mate's problems.
"It's fun to have a laugh!" he said, adding, "I'm known as someone who loves to laugh at other people's problems -- like if friend of mine had a bad comedy gig he'll ring me to tell me about it, and I'll laugh because he knows I'll get joy out of the fact that a room full of people ignored him."
He continued, "But hopefully I embarrass myself more than anyone gets embarrassed on the show -- for example, in one episode we had a guy whose problem was that he needed to have a prostate exam but he was worried about a doctor shoving-- I mean putting -- a finger up his a**."
"So we got a doctor out to do that and the guys didn't want to do it, so I ended up doing it instead!" he added.
With the new season of 'Hughesy, We Have A Problem' dropping on 10 on January 20 at 9 pm, we were curious at to what are some of the strangest problems he encountered for the upcoming ep.
"Well, one that we try to solve is a woman who comes on the show, who says she loves me and is a fan of my work, but she's bringing her husband on because he hates me," Hughesy began. "So he comes on the show and I thought he would back down once he's there, like some sort of keyboard warrior -- but he didn't back down!"
"So it all became very funny and tense television -- it was a very Jerry Springer moment," he added.
We can't wait!
Hughesy, We Have A Problem will hit screens on January 20th at 9pm on 10 and 10play.
