The Bachelor Australia 2019: Matt Agnew Picks Chelsie McLeod
After a long road, astrophysicist Matt Agnew has finally told Chelsie McLeod how he truly felt.
Standing at an altar with 28-year-old Chelsie McLeod, Matt admitted his heart was "fluttering".
"Even though it could get broken into 1,000 pieces, I feel the time is right to take the plunge," Matt said, "to take that leap and tell you how I feel.
"Chelsie, I love you."
The Chemical Engineer was stunned, admitting to her bachelor that she had spent the entire morning crying, thinking she was about to be on the receiving end of some bad news.
"It would be easy to say that I love your passion for science, that I love all the things we keep finding that we have in common," Matt continued, "all these things are amazing but there's more. There's more.
"I love how you giggle when you're nervous. I love that you go full nerd as soon as there's some maths involved. Above all else though, I just love how you make me feel. You make me want to believe in fairy tales because when I'm with you I feel like I'm living in one."
Chelsie beat out 23-year-old Abbie Chatfield who was shocked by the news that Matt's heart belonged to someone else. Telling Matt that all she wanted was for him to be happy, Abbie admitted, "I’ll get over this before it even airs".
Despite feeling torn between the final two, Matt told 10 daily his connection with Chelsie became clear on their first single date.
"The first date -- baking the banana bread -- doing something quite normal for a couple rather than something with loads of glitz and glamour and over the top," Matt said.
"Having that immediate connection and feeling so comfortable in each other's company with something that wasn't relying on an extravagant date -- I think that's a big sign there's something really special there."
Matt also presented Chelsie with a ring, to commemorate the journey the pair had shared over the last few weeks. After receiving the ring, a still-stunned Chelsie told Matt she had been prepared to have her heart broken.
"I wasn't ready! And you didn't break it, you made it whole again."
