'People Thought We'd Split Up': How Megan Gale Kept Quiet About Shaun's Time On 'Survivor'

Megan Gale has opened up about what it's like when your partner signs up for 'Survivor'.

The model's partner -- former AFL player Shaun Hampson -- has been battling against the elements and the members of his newly formed Soli Bula tribe on this season of the gruelling reality show.

But although Megan's got access to a pantry, a roof over her head and a warm bed, it's still really hard being at home when your loved one is trying to Outwit, Outplay and Outlast in Fiji and you've got absolutely no way to contact them.

Megan answered a number of her fans' questions on Instagram stories, explaining what it was like being at home with the couple's two kids, River, 5, and Rosie, 1, while Shaun was away during filming.

She explained that the hardest part was not being able to pick up the phone, or even text, during a stressful time when she was launching her new business, Your Mindful Life.

"It really was like he vanished off the face of the earth," she told her followers.

"He’s not just my man, he’s my best friend and we parent together so beautifully so to not have him around, we really, really noticed his absence.

"That was the worst part about it, I hated it," she said.

Megan said that she even had to keep Shaun's absence secret from their kids, who are just that bit too young to grasp what on earth 'Australian Survivor' even means.

"So Rosie didn’t know, she’s a bit young to wrap her head around it," Megan said.

"River didn’t know for a while, we just said that Daddy had to go away and that he was going to an island to help build shelters which technically wasn’t a lie. I think he just assumed it was for a village," she said.

The white lie meant that River wouldn't accidentally tell any of his friends, or his friends' parents, and spill the beans on any 'Survivor' secrets.

"I had so many of his friends' parents going 'Where’s Shaun? Where’s Shaun, when’s he coming back? What’s he doing?'

"I think people thought we’d split up because I couldn't answer and I couldn’t lie properly -- we had to keep it super, super secret," she said.

Although filming has wrapped and Shaun is back at home, the competition has only heated up with the rivalry between the Horse and model David Genat reaching fever pitch.

Megan admitted that -- besides her hubby -- she wants to "adopt Baden" and has respect for "awesome chicks" Janine, Pia and Abbey. But ultimately has a soft spot for Luke.

Which has us thinking, we'd love to see how Megan would fare in the Champions vs Contenders 'Survivor' arena.

Australian Survivor: Champions V Contenders' airs Sunday - Tuesday at 7.30pm, only on 10, 10 Play and WIN Network.
