The 'Gogglebox Australia' Segment That Had Everyone In Tears

The premiere of the 10th season of 'Gogglebox Australia' saw the households reaching for the tissues.

The families sat down to watch chef Kylie Kwong on an episode of Anh Do's 'Brush With Fame' on ABC TV.

The show involves the comedian (who's also a talented artist) painting his subjects as he interviews them about their lives. Kwong described two moments that had nearly everyone sobbing, beginning with her decision to come out to her father as a teenager.

"It was a very lonely time, because I didn't even know what was going on inside of me," Kwong explained, adding that she then eventually told her father, "Dad, I'm gay".

Kwong was told to get out of the family house in a matter of days and that she would be disowned as her father's daughter.  She continued on to say she was then fast asleep but woke up to her sobbing father, backtracking on his threat to throw her out.

The segment resonated with Tim (who watches telly with sister Leanne) who described his own struggles with his sexuality.

"Even during my time, as a way to fight against this innate internal urge, I deliberately went out and looked for girlfriends," Tim said.

But it was Kwong's next story that caused both Tim and, in other households, Sarah-Marie, and Lee to begin sobbing.

The Billy Kwong chef described how it took four years for her partner Nell to fall pregnant. After finally conceiving, Nell's waters broke five months early.

"We felt blessed," said Kylie, explaining that their son, "lived for six days".

The story caused Sarah-Marie -- who is pregnant with her first child with husband Matty -- to burst into tears.

"I can't even imagine what they went through," she said.

Kylie's experience prompted Tim to open up to sister Leanne about a similar situation he went through.

"I went through something just as hard. I was a father, I had been told it was successful... and then to have it ripped away, it is the most heart-wrenching thing I've ever had to go through," he said as Leanne comforted him.

"That was an amazing experience," Kylie said of her time with Anh.

"I feel really privileged that I had time to share all of those deep stories that are meaningful to me," she said.
