Shannen Doherty Will Take Part In Emotional Riverdale Tribute To Luke Perry
The fourth season of 'Riverdale' premieres October 10 on Netflix.
Shannen Doherty has revealed she will be making an appearance in the upcoming season of 'Riverdale' in a tribute to her longtime friend, Luke Perry, who passed away in March at age 52 after suffering a stroke.
Doherty, who starred alongside Perry in 'Beverly Hills 90210', shared a series of sweet snaps over the weekend in memory of the late star. News of Doherty’s casting was made at Comic-Con on Sunday.
“I am deeply honoured to pay tribute to Luke on Riverdale. The care in which this show takes in honouring his memory is beautiful,” Doherty wrote alongside the photos. “He is missed. Today. Tomorrow. Forever,” she added.
Riverdale executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had previously spoken of plans to have Doherty appear in season four's first episode, which is set to be a one-hour tribute to Perry, telling ET:
"Luke and Shannen were really, really good friends," he began. "Luke had talked to me on and off over the years about trying to find something for Shannen on the show and when we were putting together this special episode, we kind of wanted to include special people from Luke's life."
In June, he also tweeted a photo of the script for the upcoming season's first episode, which will be titled “In Memoriam.”
Perry played Archie Andrew's father, Fred, on the hit series, with his final appearance on 'Riverdale' having aired in April following this death.
The absence of his character has yet to be addressed within the show.
