'Chilli Wimp' Maggie Beer Left Red-Faced After 'MasterChef' Lays On The Heat
She's a national treasure, and on Thursday's episode of 'MasterChef' Maggie Beer was the one put to the test.
During the two-part elimination challenge, the contestants were first tasked with creating a dish that celebrated the herbs of the 'MasterChef' garden.
Tati served the judges up her grilled rice with prawn curry wrapped in banana and turmeric leaves. The judges were massive fans of the way Tati packed so much flavour into the dish, but there was one thing Maggie wasn't quite expecting.
Yep, Tati had burned the mouth off of one of Australia's most beloved culinary figures. There she was, serving up a dish that ended up keeping her in the competition, but also filled Maggie Beer's mouth with the heat of 10,000 volcanos.
But the fun didn't stop there for Maggie who was ready for round two: spices.
Putting the spice in spices was Christina who had prepared Thai turmeric mussels with turmeric flatbread.
And you better believe as soon as it hit Maggie's palate, the lava began to flow again.
Coughing through the pain, Maggie took it all in her stride, taking up the mantle of a "proper chilli lightweight" and de-throning George as the most sensitive when it comes to hot dishes.
"I am the biggest chilli wimp that anyone ever comes across," the cooking legend admitted.
Once again, despite burning Maggie's mouth off, Christina's dish saved her from leaving the competition with Matt even wondering if this particular dish was a turning point for her.
So there you go, 'MasterChef' hopefuls, the lesson here is always serve Maggie Beer a hell of a spicy dish, and you'll be alright. Just make sure she is too.
