'This Has Been A Lifelong Dream': Curtis Stone Just Got Awarded His First Michelin Star

Curtis Stone's Los Angeles restaurant -- Maude -- has just picked up a coveted Michelin star.

The Australian chef opened the fine dining restaurant in Beverly Hills five years ago, naming it after his late paternal grandmother.

When Maude first opened its doors in February 2014, the ever-changing ten-course degustation menu revolved around a single, seasonal ingredient, with produce like garlic or zucchini chosen as the hero of each dish. More recently, Stone's menus have been inspired by wine regions around the world, including Sonoma, Burgundy and Western Australia.

Maude has now been recognised by Michelin, which has just released a 2019 California guide, the first time LA has been visited by the esteemed reviewers in over a decade.

“The Michelin Guide coming to LA to do a California state-wide guide is so exciting,“ Stone said in a statement.

I spent my early years cooking in Europe in Michelin-starred restaurants and the guide was always a barometer of where we were at. To be awarded a Michelin star feels a little like a life’s work all come together in one day.

Stone said the honour was all because of the Maude team -- a group of people who feel more like family than workmates.

"To be awarded the biggest honour in the business is actually a really selfless thing, because the star’s not for you, it’s for everyone who works in the restaurant," said Stone.

Stone's wife -- actor Lindsay Prince -- commented that she was proud of her "brilliant hardworking genius soulful man".

Congrats, Curtis!
