Busy Philipps Is ‘Really Scared’ For Women Who Want Abortions In 2019

Speaking on her late night now, 'Busy Tonight', Busy Phillips spoke out against the state of Georgia’s new abortion bill for women, which would prohibit the procedure after six weeks.

The bill, which was signed into law yesterday, prompted the star to speak about her own experience of having an abortion at the age of 15, revealing that she's “genuinely, really scared for women and girls all over this country," following the introduction of the controversial law.

On Tuesday night's episode of 'Busy Tonight,' the 39-year-old kicked off the show by discussing the ban.

"I have a thing that I would like to say,” she began. “I hope that whatever it is that you believe personally that maybe you’ll be open to hearing what I’m saying.”

“I know that people feel very strongly about abortion, but let me just say this. Women and their doctors are in the best position to make informed decisions about what is best for them. Nobody else, nobody,” Philipps said.

“The statistic is that one in four women will have an abortion before age 45. That statistic sometimes surprises people, and maybe you’re sitting there thinking, I don’t know a woman who would have an abortion. Well, you know me.”

She added that by sharing her own story she hoped other women would “talk more” about the issue and fight to defend their reproductive rights.

“Is that a hard left turn?” she asked, comparing the topic of abortion to her usual topics featured on the show. “Yeah, it is. Is it kind of jarring? Yes, it is also kind of jarring. But, guess what? That’s what being a f***ing woman is. Having a regular Tuesday and then suddenly being reminded that people are trying to police your body. And then you just have to go back to work.”

Following her emotional speech, fans praised the host across social media, commending her for her bravery for speaking out on such an important topic.

After the show, Philipps posted to Twitter, “I spoke about my abortion on my show tonight because I can not sit idly by while women’s rights are stripped away.”

Busy recently told fans that her talk show would be cancelled after seven months on the air. Revealing the news over Twitter, she wrote:

"Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know my show 'Busy Tonight' won't be continuing on the E network after May 16," she began.  "I'm beyond proud of what we've built in such a short period of time and I'm hopeful we can find the right place for the show to live on. Goodnight you guys. I love you."
