Bachelor In Paradise 2019: 'Everyone Goes On These Shows For The Publicity, Initially'

Blindsided by the intensity of the Paradise Tell All, Nathan told 10 Daily over the phone that he "wasn't expecting" it go play out like that.

"Everyone kind of jumped on board a bit," he said of Rachael and Zoe accusing him of playing "rose games".

"I was completely blindsided," he said, revealing that he hasn't spoken to either of them since the filming of the Tell All.

"To be honest, I’m just trying to distance myself from the whole reality TV bubble," he said. "It’s a portion of my life that I learnt a lot from but I’m happy to just leave it and move on."

One person he has smoothed things over with, however, is Ivan, who had declared their friendship over after Nathan showed interest in pursuing Tenille in Paradise.

"After the Tell All we hung out a lot and we did have a long conversation," Nathan revealed. "I don’t know what he’d say now but in my opinion I think we’re friends again."

Although Nathan "definitely" believes that Ivan's apology for his possessive and toxic behaviour toward Tenille in Paradise was genuine, he still had some reservations.

"Ugh, who knows? You never know, honestly," he said. "With Ivan, he did definitely… he did apologise and he can feel bad and he can see the error of his ways, but however, when the emotions come back he could quite easily slip back into his old ways again. So yes it was genuine, but whether or not he’s actually learnt enough to find a coping mechanism when he gets upset or angry, I dunno."

Noting that the Tell All left a "sour taste" in his mouth about his entire Paradise experience, Nathan gave the impression that he was questioning the sincerity of anyone who signed up for reality TV.

Asked what he learned from his time on television, he paused.

He sighed.

"I guess that... there are definitely different kinds of people who go on those shows," he began. "Some people go on there -- well I mean, everyone that goes on those shows initially for the publicity, you know, a bit of fame, a bit of the spotlight."

He clarified. "Later on, definitely some people get feelings and real emotions and that’s why you see people build strong connections, but I think anyone would be lying if they tried to deny why they go on there. That’s basically what I’ve taken from it."

After facing accusations that he was playing "rose games" to stay in Paradise longer, Nathan had this to say.

"The thing about this, if I put it in perspective for people -- if I didn’t play the rose game, if I didn’t try and stay on there, I wouldn’t have met Tenille, and we did have a genuine connection," he said. "She’s a great girl and we did have a lot of fun."

Nathan went on to sling some 'rose game' allegations back at Rachael.

"[Rachael had] no grounds to tell me that I played the game when that was her whole campaign," he said.  "She accused me of doing those things and you know what, at the end of the day, I’m happy to say that in some instances maybe I was just trying to stay in the game, I guess, to see who else walked in, but I’m definitely not about to accuse anyone else of that. I can admit I might’ve done it myself."

With Zoe, meanwhile, Nathan said he was "baffled" by her claim that they'd ever had a romantic connection.

"It never was," he insisted. "That’s the thing. It still baffles me how Zoe picked up those signals. It just baffles me how she thinks that we were even in a relationship or had that connection. I thought she was fine, I was like, you know, I think I even told her I liked her as a friend, that she’s cool, I’d like to get to know her, and that was in the first two days. Every other day aside from that I stayed clear of her. If you pick up that I’m giving you really strong messages that we should be together from that then… yeah… you should definitely be on a reality TV show."

Shifting gears, we spoke about Nathan's friendship with Cass, asking him whether he'd met Cass' new boyfriend.

"Yeah, yeah!" Nathan replied. "I’ve met Cass’ new boyfriend and he’s a legend, he’s such a nice guy. They’re a great couple, a great couple. I think they’ll go the distance. He’s a really nice, genuine guy and I couldn’t be happier for her."

As for Nathan's dating life, he's "delved back into that since the Paradise filming" but said that "at the end of the day", he's " just not going to get into anything too serious if it’s not a hundred percent going to be a relationship".

"It takes me a long time to get to that connection," he continued. "And I stay pretty emotionally detached until I think it’s gonna be a long-term thing because I’ve been hurt in the past. That’s just what I do, I dunno. I know it tends to… that it can hurt other people at times, but yeah. I’m not scared away of going and dating and meeting new people."
