Meet Our First Bunch Of MasterChef 2019 Hopefuls
It's nearly time for Season 11 of MasterChef and our first batch of home cooks are raring to get their hands on an apron.
Our judges Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan have a tough job ahead of them deciding which home cooks will make it to the top 24 and be in the running to follow in the footsteps of our 2018 winner, Sashi Cheliah.
Meet this year's first group of contestants who will be attempting to slice, dice, sous-vide, and quenelle their way to the top and pursue their dreams of a career in the kitchen.
Jess Hall, 28
A travel agent from New South Wales, Jess proclaims that she's loud, wears her heart on her sleeve and is "all or nothing".
Will Jess' signature scallop dish impress the judges and score her a spot in Season 11?
Tim Bone, 33
Prince Harry, is that you? Despite looking a bit like the ginger-haired royal, Tim is actually a cooking and gardening educator from Victoria with a passion for gourmet toasted sandwiches.
"It might sound crazy, but who doesn't love a toastie," he asks the judges.
Can't argue with that!
Kyle Lyons, 29
Mustachioed Kyle has a passion for brewing and knows a thing or two about pairing the perfect meal with just the right schooner of beer -- and the Western Australian cook dreams of owning his own microbrewery one day.
In his attempt to seduce the judges with some west coast cuisine, Kyle will plate up his signature dish of king oyster mushroom scallops -- which (twist!) apparently doesn't actually contain scallops.
Sandeep Pandit, 37
Sandeep's signature dish is very close to his heart and tells the story of his family's emigration to Australia from Kashmir.
"My parents worked very hard to make ends meet, so it was by necessity that I learned how to cook," the IT consultant says.
"And here I am auditioning for MasterChef Australia!"
