Jason Donovan's Daughter Jemma Is Joining The 'Neighbours' Cast

It's been over 30 years since Jason Donovan made his debut as Ramsay Street's resident heartthrob, Scott Robinson.

Donovan became an '80s icon playing the hunky Scott -- who memorably married the neighbourhood mechanic, Charlene Mitchell (Kylie Minogue) in one of Australian TV's most iconic weddings.

Jason left Neighbours in 1989 to pursue his singing career but handed the baton to his dad, Terence Donovan, who played Doug Willis during the '90s.

And now, after years of a serious on-set Donovan absence, Jason's daughter Jemma will be joining Ramsay Street this year to play the "quick witted and complicated Harlow Robinson".

Which means Donovan's real daughter will be joining his fictional TV family -- even though his character has been living happily off-screen with Charlene in Brisbane for the last few decades.

Donovan said in a statement that "Neighbours is an incredible learning curve for any young actor", clearly chuffed that Jemma will be honing her craft in the same environment as he did so many years ago.

“It’s become an institution and I’m so grateful for my time on Ramsay Street," he added.

“There are so many great memories for me looking back, and to be honest this is Jemma’s moment. My Dad had a wonderful few years and I’m sure Jemma will also embrace the experience and honour the past," he said, giving a nod to dad Terence.

Donovan also offered his 18-year-old daughter some advice ahead of filming, writing that Jemma should "be an open book" and "have fun" with her time as Harlow Robinson.

Jemma has previously worked on crime drama Spotless and had a role as an 11-year-old on the film Mr Stink. She said in a statement that she was "honoured" to join the cast of Neighbours and was looking forward to playing Harlow.

"She is very head strong, and I enjoy playing that type of character who knows what she is doing and likes to get involved and Harlow seems to have those qualities,” she said.

Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison said the young actor absolutely nailed her audition for the show and her "pedigree was an unexpected surprise".

"Jason and Terence are Ramsay Street royalty and it warms all our hearts to know there will be a third generation Donovan on the show," he said.
