'Vanderpump Rules' Star Lala Kent Reveals Struggle With Alcoholism
In an Instagram story on Monday, 'Vanderpump Rules' star Lala Kent revealed that she is in Alcoholics Anonymous.
“Five months ago, I came to the realization that I am an alcoholic," shared the reality star.
Referencing Bill Wilson, the co-founder of AA's 12-step program, Lala went on to say that she is "now a friend of Bill W".
“You will never know how much this program means to me,” she continued. “It's given me new life.”
Noting that she'd never be one to preach to others, Lala said: “I always say if you don’t have to be sober, I wouldn’t recommend it, but me -- as someone who does need to be sober -- being in my right frame of mind every single day is truly incredible.
“When I’m having the roughest day that I could possibly have, I -- for once in a very, very long time -- see the light at the end of the tunnel. I know that tomorrow I’m gonna be okay.”
It's been a difficult year for Lala after the passing of her father Kent Burningham last April. Since getting sober, she said, she's now able to grieve the loss properly.
“I’m so grateful that I have this program and that I can mourn him,” she said, tearing up. “The program has allowed me to sit down and remember my dad in a clear frame of mind, and remember what he brought to my life, what he meant to me, what he taught me.”
It's not the first time Lala has been vocal about her struggle with alcohol. In the current season of Vanderpump Rules, Lala has been taking "a break" from drinking after breaking a hurricane-proof window while "running around naked screaming at the top of [her] lungs".
Back in December, Lala celebrated 50 days sober while at an appearance on People TV, and shared that after a period of heavy drinking following her father's death, she was "just ready to be a healthy person".
