DWTS 2019: Courtney Act Hopes To Dance As Shane This Season
She's already appeared on Australian Idol, RuPaul's Drag Race, Celebrity Big Brother and Eurovision. Now drag sensation Courtney Act is hoping to conquer Dancing With The Stars.
Stepping onto the dancefloor draped in tassels as the last to perform on the premiere episode, Courtney Act brought the house down with her incredible jive routine with dance partner Joshua Keefe set to “Feel It Still” by Portugal. The Man.
Ending the show with a bang, Act -- real name Shane Jenek -- nabbed the highest score of the evening with an impressive 23 out of 30 which had her jumping to the top of the scoreboard.
"It was so fun!" she told 10 daily, adding, "Before I went on, I was just thinking about my face, remembering to smile and trying to remember the counts -- but as soon as I got up there, I just went into full show mode."
Her second routine was the cha cha, which saw her live out all of our '90s tween dreams as she performed to the Spice Girls' "Wannabe", complete with red wig and Union Jack dress a la Ginger Spice -- and fans were all over it.
While Act certainly makes slaying the DF like a pro look easy, she assures us it's anything but.
"We've been rehearsing for five weeks already," she said of the cast's gruelling training schedule. "This is the sixth week of rehearsal, just every day from one to five in the studio dancing and dancing and dancing,"
"I love it though! I certainly haven't mastered anything yet, but to have the opportunity to work so hard on a one minute and 20-second performance is just a lot of fun," she continued.
The stage is certainly a familiar space for Act, who first appeared on Aussie television screens back in 2003 on Australian Idol, making it to the semi-finals and dazzling viewers with a rendition of "You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore.
But while we've seen Courtney work it on Idol, RuPaul's Drag Race and Celebrity Big Brother, it begs the question -- will we ever see Shane perform as himself in DWTS?
"I'm working on it!" she said. "I was actually thinking about it on Monday night as we were all standing there in our costumes -- all the women's outfits were glamorous, fabulous, exciting and colourful... And then all the men were just in a black shirt!"
She continued, "I'll have to do my version of 'boy'. I've been going through some of my old club kid boy drag looks and thinking about what I could bring back."
We can't wait!
