I'm A Celebrity 2019: Tahir Bilgic Opens Up About The Death Of His Father
On Wednesday’s episode of ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ the camp comedian spoke openly about the recent passing of his dad.
Tahir and fellow celeb Luke Jacobz were left on their own in the camp which allowed the pair to bond over troublemaking, games of hide-and-seek and eventually some open and honest conversations about their dads.
Best known for his comedic writing, producing and starring roles in shows like Fat Pizza and Here Come the Habibs, the soft-spoken funnyman revealed he lost his father in the last six months.
Tahir explained he hadn’t mentioned it before because his father’s death was still very raw.
Luke has mentioned the death of his own father to his campmates several times since entering the jungle, even dedicating his luxury item, a pair of bright pink socks, to his dad who died from brain cancer in 2015.
Tahir revealed his father was ill for three years, suffering from dementia and several strokes.
“The last, third stroke,” Tahir said, “gone. It was a bleed in the brain. My brothers… every day in the hospital. Back and forth, back and forth.”
Of the loss, Tahir said he realised that he still had more he wanted to say to his dad before he passed.
“That’s why I tell people, I say, mate you got your parents around just tell them how you feel now, say what you need to say,” he said, “It becomes way too late.”
The Street Smart star said his dad was a bit of a risk-taker and would have loved to have a go roughing it in the I’m A Celeb camp.
“You get a lot of those traits, who you are, from that,” Luke said of Tahir’s close relationship with his dad, “If you do something that reminds you, ‘My dad would have done that’ then that’s him laughing and going ‘See, that’s my boy’.”
