Ellen DeGeneres Is Considering Ending Her Talk Show
They say all good things must come to an end.
In a new interview with The New York Times, Ellen Degeneres has revealed she's considering wrapping up her iconic talk show, which has seen everyone from Nicki Minaj to Taylor Swift sit down with the host.
And while the end may be in the pipeline, the comedian revealed that she's received conflicting messaged from her wife Portia de Rossi, and her brother, Vance, who believes the star is a positive influence in today's socio-economic climate.
“[De Rossi] gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop,” DeGeneres tells the Times, after revealing she took the option to extend her contract until the summer of 2020 -- though she mentioned she almost declined the offer.
Meanwhile, Aussie-born de Rossi, who recently celebrated 15 years with DeGeneres, thinks that the 60-year-old should explore other creative outlets.
“I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and standup that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity,” de Rossi told the Times. “There are other things she could tackle.”
“I don’t see the end of her show as her career ending,” she added.
Part of that exploration comes in the form of Ellen's new Netflix stand-up special, Relatable, which is set to drop on the streaming platform on December 15th.
“I wanted to show all of me,” DeGeneres said. “The talk show is me, but I’m also playing a character of a talk-show host. There’s a tiny, tiny bit of difference.”
“She’s just a bit more complicated than she appears on the show,” de Rossi added. “There’s more range of emotion.“
