Sir David Attenborough Has Made The Leap To Netflix
We are living in a whole new world, one that'll be shot in sparkling 4K.
Yes, it's true, after years of delivering incredible documentary series for the BBC, today it was announced that Sir David Attenborough's newest series will be launching... on Netflix!
Appropriately titled Our Planet, Sir David's newest series will be an eight-part look at Earth's "most precious species and fragile habitats" promising to showcase sights never seen before -- shot on 4K cameras.
Speaking at WWF"s State of the Planet Address in London, Attenborough said, "Our Planet will take viewers on a spectacular journey of discovery showcasing the beauty and fragility of our natural world."
"Today we have become the greatest threat to the health of our home but there’s still time for us to address the challenges we’ve created if we act now," the 92-year-old said.
"We need the world to pay attention. Our Planet brings together some of the world’s best filmmakers and conservationists and I’m delighted to help bring this important story to millions of people worldwide"
It's a huge move as Attenborough has been linked to the BBC since the '50s in some way or another, his recent follow-up to his 2009 series Planet Earth -- called Planet Earth II -- was released in 2016. Both series had cult-like followings, especially after a clip of lizards attempting to escape snakes went viral in the lead-up to the second series' launch.
While Attenborough has also worked on series for Sky, UKTV's Watch and appeared on more projects than we could list, the move to Netflix sees Sir David available on a global scale like never before. Which is great news for nature fetishist and stoners alike.
All eight episodes of Our Planet will hit Netflix globally on April 5, 2019.
