'The Walking Dead' Star Scott Wilson Dies At Age 76
In what comes as sad news for fans of 'The Walking Dead', it was announced today that Scott Wilson -- who played Hershel Greene on the hit series -- has passed away.
According to TMZ, the actor -- who had more than 50 acting credits to his name -- died due to complications from leukemia, Scott's rep Dominic Mancini told the publication.
Mancini says Wilson was "a national treasure, a calm voice, and a gentle spirit to everyone who came in contact with him." It was revealed that the star passed away peacefully at his LA home.
The sad news comes just days after TWD showrunner Angela Kang revealed on show's panel at New York Comic-Con that Scott -- along with former stars Sonequa Martin-Green and Jon Bernthal -- would be returning for the upcoming ninth season, which premieres Sunday.
Wilson joined AMC’s zombie series in Season 2, with his character being killed off in Season 4. He began his film career back in 1967 with In the Heat of the Night, and would go on to appear in roughly 50 additional films, including In Cold Blood, The Great Gatsby and Dead Man Walking. He also nabbed a Golden Globe nod for Best Supporting Actor for the 1980 film The Ninth Configuration.
Walking Dead‘s official Twitter feed confirmed the actor’s passing, saying:
“We are deeply saddened to report that Scott Wilson, the incredible actor who played Hershel… has passed away at the age of 76. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in paradise, Scott. We love you!”
